Randy Moss says he’s battling cancer and will return to ESPN ‘as soon as I’m healthy’
As a lifelong sports enthusiast who has followed the NFL closely for decades, I can’t help but feel deeply saddened by the news about Randy Moss’ battle with cancer. The Hall of Famer’s courage and resilience are truly inspiring, and it’s heartening to see him maintain such a positive attitude throughout this challenging time.
Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss is battling cancer.
On Instagram, Moss shared that doctors discovered a cancerous growth in his bile duct, located between his pancreas and liver, on Friday. He mentioned getting a stent fitted in his liver during Thanksgiving, followed by a six-hour operation last week, referred to as the Whipple procedure, for removing the cancer.
During the video, Moss, 47, referred to himself as a cancer survivor.
Moss remarked that he never expected to find himself in such a situation, given his perceived health status. However, unforeseen events occurred and he found himself needing help. He requested prayers from his supporters, as well as the presence of his family during this challenging time. Rest assured, they were there for him.
As a dedicated cinephile, I find myself on the mend. Indeed, there will be some challenging days ahead with chemotherapy and radiation treatments, yet as I’ve mentioned, it’s all part of the journey, and I’m ready for it.

ESPN has decided to end ‘Around the Horn,’ a program that frequently includes Times columnist Bill Plaschke as part of its journalist panel. The series’ last episode is scheduled to air during the following summer.
On December 6th, ESPN revealed through a statement that Moss was stepping away temporarily from his position as an analyst for “NFL Sunday Countdown” to manage a significant health issue in his personal life.
In an Instagram video shared prior to his last Sunday appearance, Moss confided in followers that he’s been dealing with some personal inner struggles. He hinted at the possibility that he may need to wear sunglasses during his broadcast due to these issues.
The tone of the video was upbeat and lighthearted, but Moss’ message was serious.
Moss requested that everyone who prays sends their supportive energy towards me and my family during these tough moments. He added that he himself is dealing with something personal and internal. However, he expressed confidence that he will overcome this challenge. With a team of skilled doctors and a loving family by his side, he encourages all men to take care of their health too by getting regular check-ups and tests.
In my latest video, I mentioned that there may be some worries and queries. For now, I prefer to keep certain matters confidential. So, I kindly ask for your patience during this time. However, as I previously stated, your prayers mean a great deal to me.

In a similar manner to incorporating Hulu earlier in the year, Disney has now placed an ESPN icon on the Disney+ homepage to stimulate more bundled subscriptions and decrease cancellations.
During the December 1st broadcast, Moss touched upon that topic at the beginning. Host Mike Greenberg replied with a humorous comment: “United we stand; if he’s sporting glasses, so are we,” as he and his co-hosts – Rex Ryan, Alex Smith, and Tedy Bruschi – all put on spectacles in solidarity with their fellow team member.

Throughout a span of fourteen years, Moss donned the jerseys for the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, and San Francisco 49ers. He currently stands at the second position in the record books for receiving touchdowns (156), is fourth on the list for receiving yards accumulated (15,292), and holds the fifteenth spot for receptions made (982).
He joined the “NFL Sunday Countdown” crew in 2016.
Randy has been a priceless asset to our team for almost a decade, continually enhancing ‘Countdown’ with his expertise and enthusiasm,” ESPN stated. “We wholeheartedly endorse him, and eagerly await his return when he feels prepared.
In his most recent video, Moss promised to be back on set “as soon as I’m healthy.”
