As a seasoned viewer of Strictly Come Dancing for many years now, I can truly empathize with the resilience and determination displayed by Nick Knowles during his recent struggles. It’s heartwarming to see him face adversity with his usual good humor and positive spirit, even when life throws him a curveball like this.

Nick Knowles shared an explanation on his Instagram about why he didn’t attend the Strictly Come Dancing final on Saturday night.

In a cozy home shared with his fiancée Katie Dadzie in Berkshire, the 62-year-old celebrity captured himself enjoying the live broadcast on screen.

He shared with his audience: “Evening everyone. It’s Saturday night, and the major finale is airing on television. We’re both watching it, just from different locations – me at home instead of in the studio. The reason being, I’ve undergone a significant arm surgery, followed by a substantial leg operation.

‘As a result, I’m only two days out from surgery, so I can’t be there.

However, just like you, I’m seated here enjoying this fantastic spectacle, sending my heartfelt good wishes to my friends – JB, Sarah, Chris, and Tasha – who are all worthy contenders for the title of champions. Here’s hoping they all excel.

Appreciate your heartwarming messages and wishes for my swift healing. Regrettably, I can’t join you all in person. This entire experience has truly been amazing.

‘Merry Christmas to all of you, happy New Year, and congratulations to whoever wins the final.’

Accompanying the video, he wrote: ‘Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the final as I’m just two days post-surgery and it was a rather extensive knee operation – specifically, a complete ACL reconstruction and repair of both meniscus, which also involved taking a tendon from my hamstring for replacement. To add to the challenge, I’m still recovering from another surgery to reattach my distal bicep, making mobility on crutches quite difficult.’

To get back on my feet and prepared for filming on BBC’s DIY SOS starting early February, I needed to undergo the surgery immediately.

I have a lot of physical therapy and meetings with physiotherapists ahead, but I’m determined to approach this challenge with the same intensity as my dance training. Success won’t happen overnight; instead, it will be achieved in progressive stages.

By February, I aim to regain the ability to walk without crutches, navigate stairs confidently, traverse uneven terrain safely. The ultimate goal is to dance at my wedding in June, which means I’ll also be able to dance. If I put in the necessary effort, I’m told that I should make a full recovery and return to 100% in approximately 8 months, as good as new.

Wishing my friends good fortune as they perform tonight, and a warm welcome back to those returning to the studio. The dancing and team spirit were fantastic, but I could have done without the injuries.

‘Merry Xmas to you all and thank you for your wonderful messages wishing me to get well soon.

This year, I’m excited about some fantastic projects ahead, including additional awe-inspiring DIY SOS episodes – we’ve already filmed two of them! You’ll also get to meet numerous heartwarming families. Additionally, there are two captivating travel shows set in Mongolia on the horizon. It promises to be an extraordinary, breathtaking journey filled with incredible people.

As I recline on the couch, sporting a likeness reminiscent of half Darth Vader with his mechanical accouterments, I extend my warmest wishes for a joyful Christmas season and a thrilling, entertaining new year ahead. I look forward to our reunion in 2025.

On Saturday’s final, it wasn’t just Nick who was absent; Paul Merson was also a no-show for the event.

56-year-old former footballer-turned-commentator Paul, who was paired with Karen Hauer, could not attend the event because he wasn’t feeling well.

A representative from Strictly stated to The Sun, “Unfortunately, Paul isn’t well today. We’ll miss him dearly and he’s sorry he couldn’t attend.

This morning, Nick appeared quite uncomfortable as he departed from the hospital using crutches following his surgery.

Due to a severe knee injury sustained during rehearsals, he was forced to cancel his scheduled live performances in October this year.

After undergoing surgery on his left knee, Nick was observed having difficulty walking. Additionally, he was noticed with pins inserted in his left arm.

The DIY SOS host later disclosed that his recovery from the injuries might stretch over approximately nine months.

As I anxiously watched Nick on stage, I felt a sense of relief knowing that my beloved Katie, aged 34 and the brilliant mind behind her lingerie empire, was by his side.

As Nick headed towards Katie’s SUV for a ride home after his latest surgery, they exchanged a loving kiss along the way.

The television host remained casual, donning a fitted black short-sleeved t-shirt, a matching pair of shorts, and white Nike sneakers.

Initially, misfortune befell Nick during a practice run-through with his professional dance partner, Luba Mushtuk. It seems that an unfortunate jump he attempted resulted in a hard landing.

It came just weeks after the TV host hurt his shoulder and arm whilst changing a car tyre.

Nick is now hoping he will recover in time for his first dance at his wedding to Katie next summer.

He announced: “We’ve arranged our wedding for the following summer, and we aim to perform our first dance. It won’t involve a complete Strictly performance, but I’m committed to sharing a memorable dance with Katie.

The long-time TV personality commended Katie for her wonderful assistance in accompanying him to medical appointments and helping him put on his pants, a task he currently cannot perform independently.
