Ahead of the final season, The Boys boss finds Game of Thrones comparisons "scary"

As a devoted fan and admirer of Eric Kripke’s extraordinary storytelling abilities, I can only imagine the immense pressure he must be feeling as the mastermind behind one of the most captivating series on Prime Video, The Boys. Comparing it to Game of Thrones is no exaggeration; both shows have captivated audiences worldwide with their unique blend of humor, action, and thought-provoking narratives.

Showrunner Eric Kripke is experiencing the weight of anticipation as the cast and team embark on the production of The Boys’ fifth and final season, the much-loved Amazon Prime Video show.

In a chat with Collider, Kripke likened The Boys to Game of Thrones when asked about managing pressure for the fifth and last season. He shared that he’s so preoccupied with his tasks that he hasn’t had time to ponder future feelings, but it won’t be long before they surface. For now, he’s focused on juggling multiple projects, like a pilot trying to safely land eight different planes.

Game of Thrones was an amazing show. When you think of the amount of work and effort and craft that went into that show, and all anyone talks about is the finale. I’m just like, “F***!” It’s really exciting, but it’s scary too.

At Winter Is Coming, let’s discuss some aspects of the series. It’s not just the finale of Game of Thrones that fans are eager to discuss, as more time has passed since its airing. However, the way the series concluded and the finale itself leave a lasting impression on viewers. Ensuring that the ending satisfies the fans is crucial for the writers, but there are likely other factors at play too.

In summary, Kripke and The Boys’ creative crew can continue to excel if they maintain their approach to storytelling as seen in the first four seasons. While the series occasionally veers off course, it’s impressive how they manage to steer it back. They have consistently surpassed expectations and kept viewers engaged throughout the initial run. I believe they need not fret about public reception, provided they stay true to their vision and convey the intended message effectively. Given the cliffhanger at the end of the fourth season, hitting these key points will be crucial.

Regarding the finale of “The Boys”, Eric Kripke has confided that he hasn’t disclosed the ending to the cast. Instead, he and the other writers are holding onto it as long as they can. In his words, “We’ve advanced enough that I can outline the overall character arcs, but these are emotional arcs, allowing the actors to start preparing for their journeys and some of the unexpected twists and turns in the storyline.” He further added, “Certainly, some aspects we’re still figuring out, but we have a strong understanding of where they all end up, emotionally.

It’s understandable that the cast hasn’t figured out how “The Boys” season ends yet, isn’t it? One reason is to prevent any major spoilers from slipping out. Actors are trustworthy, but mistakes with scripts and miscommunications can occur. Keeping the number of people privy to this information as small as possible helps ensure secrecy.

During the production of the fifth season, it’s important to understand that things can change even when the season is largely planned out. The creative process isn’t always smooth sailing on set, and these changes may impact the storyline. While creator Kripke has a general idea of what will happen, he may not have all the minute details figured out just yet. Given that we’re only in the early stages of filming for season 5, there are still several months of production ahead.

Although filming for The Boys’ fifth season is set to begin towards the end of 2024, it seems unlikely that it will air on Prime Video in 2025. Instead, it looks like production may extend well into 2025, which would likely mean a release date for the final season in 2026.

We’ll share more news about The Boys season 5 when we find out!
