NASCAR: One track no longer on the calendar in 2025

As a seasoned NASCAR enthusiast with decades of racing under my belt, I must admit that change is a constant companion in this sport. The addition of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez to the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series schedule is an exciting development, but it’s bittersweet to see one of our old tracks, Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, being replaced by Bowman Gray Stadium.

For the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is a new addition to the schedule. However, none of the tracks previously included in the regular season or playoffs have been entirely removed from the calendar due to this new inclusion.

Prior to the release of the 2025 schedule, there was significant rescheduling of dates. However, despite losing one event to accommodate the race in Mexico, the track in question still retains one event on its schedule.

In 2025, Richmond Raceway will only be hosting a single race, unlike previous years when it hosted two. Meanwhile, there’s a track that NASCAR has been visiting frequently in recent seasons, but it appears this track won’t be part of the schedule at all next year.

One track removed from NASCAR Cup Series schedule

In the year 2022, NASCAR shifted the preseason Busch Light Clash race, previously held at Daytona International Speedway, to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. To accommodate this change, a temporary four-corner, quarter-mile (approximately 402 meters) flat track was specifically built within the stadium that houses the USC Trojans football team.

However, following a three-year tradition where the Cup Series would race in Los Angeles two weeks prior to the start of the season at the Daytona 500, NASCAR has decided to switch up the location this year.

Beginning in 2025, the Busch Light Clash will take place at Bowman Gray Stadium. This track shares the same length as the one constructed within the Coliseum and boasts a robust NASCAR history, having hosted Cup Series races from 1958 to 1971.

However, it hasn’t held a Cup Series race since then, and although it won’t host a points race next year, the eagerly anticipated addition of it to the calendar, replacing the Coliseum, has been warmly received by numerous fans.

A few weeks before his death in early November, Bobby Allison was officially recognized as the winner of the 1971 race. This victory, previously unacknowledged in his Cup Series win count, enabled him to tie Darrell Waltrip for fourth place on the all-time wins list with his 85th career victory.

2025’s Busch Light Clash will air live on Fox, starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, this coming Sunday, February 2nd, from Bowman Gray Stadium.
