James Corden’s 2006 British comedy is on TV tonight
As a dedicated fan who has followed James Corden’s career since his days on “Gavin & Stacey,” I am thrilled to see him back on our screens tonight with “The History Boys.” Having grown up watching British comedy, this film is right up my alley! While I must admit that I have a soft spot for anything Corden does, I’m eager to see how his performance in this film compares to the original play.
James Corden’s British comedy film The History Boys will air on UK TV this evening (December 13).
2006’s film is based on Alan Bennett’s play and chronicles the life-altering journey of a motley crew of exceptionally talented, yet misbehaved British schoolboys. Their lives take an unexpected turn when two educators with contrasting ideas about education strive to secure their admission into prestigious universities Oxford and Cambridge, creating a heated competition.
In the film, Corden plays one of the students. Joining him are Dominic Cooper known from “Mamma Mia”, Richard Griffiths famous for “Harry Potter”, Sacha Dhawan who appeared in “Doctor Who”, Penelope Wilton from “Downton Abbey”, and Samuel Anderson, star of “Renegade Nell”.
Tonight at 11:05 PM, “The History Boys” will be broadcasted on BBC Two. If you prefer, you can catch it immediately on BBC iPlayer.
After its debut, the movie garnered a variety of opinions from critics, as several pointed out that it didn’t live up to the greatness of the initial stage production.
Nevertheless, it boasts a ‘Fresh’ rating of 66% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The critical consensus is that while it may not reach the same level of impact as its initial stage production, The History Boys remains a clever and engaging school-set drama.
In the upcoming holiday season, viewers can look forward to catching up with Corden once more in the much anticipated Gavin & Stacey Christmas special. This special episode marks the conclusion of the popular sitcom series forever.
In the town of Barry, Bryn is preparing the Picasso for a journey to Essex. Meanwhile, Stacey and Gavin are exploring fresh ideas to reinvigorate their 17-year-old marriage, and there seems to be some unusual behavior from Gwen.
In the meantime, Nessa embarks on a new business endeavor, Neil the Baby is preparing to start an apprenticeship with his father, and Pam finds herself managing this year’s festivities, a task made more challenging by Mick, who is now retired, practicing his golf swings in the living room.
Recently, I’ve scored another exciting movie part in director Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming dark comedy, “The Christophers.” This story revolves around two kids who, with a creative twist, decide to transform their father’s uncompleted artwork into cash by venturing into the forgery business. Can’t wait to be a part of this intriguing tale!
The History Boys airs on BBC Two at 11.05pm tonight.
