Cricket legend reveals shocking Shane Warne story that revealed the extent of his addiction

In a light-hearted account, Australian cricket icon Adam Gilchrist shares the genuine struggles with Shane Warne’s smoking habit during their playing days.
This week, a 53-year-old left-handed cricketer reminisced on Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren about the good ol’ days of the Australian cricket squad and Shane’s funny escapades.
The cricket commentator highlighted the king of spin’s humour.
Adam clarified, “We were arranged in a row, you see, at a rigorous military-style training camp. This was a demanding, week-long event with a mix of physical and mental challenges intended to push us to our limits.
Initially, the doctor requested everyone to display any medications they might be reliant on. Specifically, those with asthma should show their inhalers, and for anyone with a troublesome back, please expose your tablets. Notably, Warnie placed eight packets of Benson & Hedges on the table.

It was no secret Shane was a heavy smoker.
As a renowned spinner across the globe, I’ve been known for my skills on the field during my 22-year tenure in international cricket. Throughout this journey, I was also a regular tobacco user.
In the prime of his career back in 1997, Shane could be seen casually smoking a cigarette beside his teammate Adam during The Ashes match in London.
The cricketer was once paid $200,000 to quit his rumoured 50 cigarettes a day habit.
In January of 1999, the spin bowler signed a profitable contract with the nicotine replacement company, Nicorette. (In this version, I’ve replaced “inked” with “signed” and made the sentence structure simpler to improve readability.)
Yet, only a few days prior to the conclusion of his four-month sponsorship, Shane was seen smoking at a bar in Barbados during his West Indies tour, according to The Age’s report.
Shane confessed, “I took a single puff in the Caribbean islands, and the folks from Nicorette are aware of it,” after pictures of him smoking surfaced.
On the final evening, I succumbed to temptation, disheartened by how the tour concluded. As the hours grew late, we’d spent the night socializing together.
Initially, I was deeply disheartened about acquiring it, but I’m hoping I can manage to break free from this habit. I underestimated how challenging it would be.
However, despite his best efforts, Shane couldn’t kick the cigarette habit, with him being consistently seen smoking during the following years.
Back in 2011, I found myself in a tight spot at the airport in Indore, India, as I lit up a cigarette, knowing full well that it could lead to another fine – a lesson I learned all too well from a previous incident, as reported by The Times Of India.
In 2013, during his relationship with Elizabeth Hurley, this charismatic figure was captured on camera enjoying a cigarette at the esteemed Ascot Racecourse.
The photos later went viral when the cricketer wrapped his mouth around a beer glass.
During his participation in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2016, he was given permission to step away from the camera often while the show was being filmed.
In the latter part of that same year, photographs emerged of Shane enjoying a smoke following his participation in a charitable run aimed at combating cancer.
