Morgan Wallen sentenced as part of plea deal in Nashville chair-tossing incident
As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the rise and fall of many a talented artist, I can’t help but feel a sense of both disappointment and empathy towards Morgan Wallen. His career has been marred by a series of unfortunate incidents that have tarnished his reputation, and as a fan of country music, it’s disheartening to see such potential go to waste.
Morgan Wallen will spend some time in a correctional facility within Tennessee, but it won’t be inside a physical jail, and certainly not in a bar.
On Thursday, the country artist admitted guilt under certain conditions in Davidson County’s Circuit Court for two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. These charges stemmed from an event in April when he was detained on suspicion of tossing a chair from a height of six stories in downtown Nashville.
In a court decision, Judge Cynthia C. Chappell ordered that Wallen serve a seven-day prison term at a DUI Education Center, undergo probation for two years, pay a fine of $350 and cover court costs, as reported by The Times.

Morgan Wallen’s career is in free-fall after country singer used a racist slur
A strong reaction or growing opposition is building up towards Morgan Wallen, a well-known country musician, following reports of him using a racial slur in a video captured outside his residence in Nashville.
If he completes his probation successfully, it will become possible for the charges to be dropped and removed from his record, as stated by his lawyer, Worrick Robinson IV, on Thursday.
Over the past eight months, Mr. Wallen has been completely open and forthcoming with law enforcement, expressing sincere remorse to everyone affected by the situation, as stated by Robinson. It’s important to note that Mr. Wallen continues to strive for a positive influence through his music and charitable foundation.
The chair that Wallen allegedly hurled from the sixth floor of a bar jointly owned by country singer Eric Church (known as Chief’s Bar), landed close to two Metro Nashville Police officers, as stated in an arrest report obtained by the Associated Press. Onlookers informed the police they observed Wallen grab the chair, hurl it, and then appear to find the act amusing.

country singer Morgan Wallen acknowledges taking accountability following an altercation at a Nashville bar, where he was arrested earlier this month due to him throwing a chair.
Initially, Wallen faced three serious charges of reckless endangerment (felonies) and one charge of disturbing the peace (misdemeanor), due to his actions involving a chair. However, in the end, he admitted guilt to lesser charges instead. It remained uncertain if Wallen was under the influence at the time he threw the chair.
30-year-old wrote on X (formerly Twitter), post-arrest: “I didn’t think it was appropriate to announce my location until I had made things right with certain individuals. Since then, I’ve reached out to Nashville police, my family, and Chief’s staff. I’m not proud of my actions and take full responsibility. I hold our law enforcement officers in high regard for their daily efforts to keep us safe.
Previously crowned as the 2024 Entertainer of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards, Wallen found himself in a career-disrupting situation last year when he was caught on camera using a racial slur during a 72-hour drinking spree with a friend. Consequentially, his successful 30-track “Dangerous” double-album faced repercussions, getting removed from major radio networks, streaming services’ playlists, and TV network CMT. He was also disqualified from the Academy of Country Music’s 2021 awards, suspended by his record label, and barred from participating in their events or shows.
In 2020, I found myself in a tricky situation following an appearance on “The Voice”. After being asked to leave Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville for public intoxication, I caused quite a commotion outside, leading to charges of disorderly conduct.

As a devoted moviegoer putting this into my own words, I’d say: My dream of having a glittering neon sign above my downtown Nashville bar got dashed due to an unfortunate incident where I hurled a chair from the roof of another country artist’s bar, following my arrest for that action.
As a movie enthusiast, I took a few pitstops at local bars, and the camaraderie led us into some playful horseplay with each other. We assure you, it wasn’t our intention to cause any distress, and we sincerely apologize to the bar staff or anyone who may have been affected by our actions.
Following fan encouragement and several months of self-improvement, he managed to stage a significant return after being dropped. Unfortunately, the past incident continues to tarnish the singer’s image, as the Nashville Metro Council vetoed a neon sign for Morgan Wallen’s This Bar & Tennessee Kitchen, originally planned for its Memorial Day weekend opening.
Delishia Porterfield, our council member at large, expressed her disapproval during the recent meeting regarding the proposed billboard for a person known for throwing chairs off balconies and using racial slurs, stating she doesn’t want such a sign displayed. This new establishment didn’t officially open until June 1st, slightly delayed from its original schedule.
