The Day of the Jackal episode 10 recap, season 1 ending, and how it sets up season 2

The Day of the Jackal episode 10 recap, season 1 ending, and how it sets up season 2

As a fan who has been following this gripping series since its UK premiere, I can confidently say that the Day of the Jackal season 1 finale was nothing short of exhilarating! The tension between characters and the intricate plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last moment.

The Day of the Jackal season 1 finale is now streaming on Peacock in the United States, capping off an incredible first season of the Sky and Peacock series.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this moment for over a month now, ever since the ten-episode first season began airing on Sky in the UK on Nov. 7, followed by its US premiere on Nov. 14. Now that we’ve reached the finale, let’s delve into the events of episode 10 and discuss how the inaugural season wrapped up!

Fortunately, another season of “The Day of the Jackal” has been confirmed, which means we can anticipate the upcoming season’s events given how the previous one concluded.

What happens in The Day of the Jackal episode 10

Episode 10 picks up where episode 9 left off, following the character known as The Jackal, played by Eddie Redmayne, after he assassinated Ulle Dag Charles (Khalid Abdalla) in Croatia. In a desperate bid for escape, The Jackal speeds away in a car, pursued closely by law enforcement. Miraculously, he manages to elude them. However, the release of River, which The Jackal had been tasked with preventing, is thwarted as a result. This turn of events delights Timothy Winthrop (Charles Dance), who enlisted The Jackal through an intermediary named Zina (Eleanor Matsuura).

Following a string of unlucky incidents such as a high-speed vehicle pursuit, collision, and spontaneous road trip with an enchanting British pair (whom The Jackal ultimately eliminates), The Jackal returns to his dwelling in Spain with the intention of resolving matters with his spouse, Nuria (Úrsula Corberó), and child. However, he’s swiftly dragged back into the world of assassinations against his will.

He calls Nuria and tells her to pack up because they’re leaving.

At MI6, Bianca (Lashana Lynch) is piecing things together. The assassin known as the Jackal made a mistake during the murder of Jimmy in Spain. Bianca, an expert with firearms, believes that only the Jackal could have killed someone from such a distance on a boat. Since Jimmy was insignificant compared to Ulle Dag Charles or German Chancellor Manfred Fest, Bianca deduces that the Jackal must be hiding somewhere near the crime scene.

In Spain, Bianca attempts to pursue him, but Lia Williams’ character stops her. As a result, Bianca resigns from her job and heads back home. There, she expresses her regret to her spouse for all the transgressions, including putting work ahead of her family.

Similarly to the relentless pursuit of the Jackal, Bianca finds it hard to stay detached for long. Subsequently, Isabel, acting upon her superiors’ orders, assigns Bianca and Vince (Nick Blood) a mission to track down and eliminate the Jackal in Spain, keeping the operation off the record. At first, Bianca refuses, but the allure of the chase ultimately reels her back into the game.

As a gamer immersed in this thrilling virtual world, I managed to pinpoint the Jackal’s hideout by chatting up local cops in a Spanish city. The chilling encounter where Jimmy met his end, with Alvaro, Nuria’s brother, present, was the key that led me and my partner, Bianca, straight to his doorstep.

In simpler terms, Zina gets a questionable phone call from Lenore, who is part of Timothy’s close group, urging her to stay put and increase her payment twice over in order to persuade the Jackal into eliminating Ulle Dag Charles. It seems they are wrapping up their business or dealing with remaining issues.

It seems like Timothy has set a dangerous situation, as evidence suggests he employed someone to murder Zina. However, she manages to outwit them and makes a swift escape from the hotel before it’s too late.

After discovering the Jackal’s hideout, Bianca watches as Nuria departs for the airport. She then alters her strategy with Vince, opting instead to capture the Jackal alive in order to uncover who has been giving him information and assistance. However, things do not go smoothly!

The Jackal kills Bianca and Vince

In due course, the Jackal finds his way back home. The stage appears perfectly set for Bianca and Vince to surprise the Jackal unexpectedly. Zina makes a swift call to the Jackal, alerting him about an approaching threat. However, she’s unaware that Bianca and Vince are already on the scene.

It seems odd that the Jackal doesn’t already have an emergency kit or ‘grab-and-go bag’, given that he carries money and weapons with him, and attempts to escape in such a manner.

Unfortunately for Bianca and Vince, Alvaro, Nuria’s brother, shows up at the house just as they were about to execute their plan. In a fateful turn of events, Alvaro attempts to shoot them, but it is they who end his life first. Tragically, this action alerts The Jackal to their presence. Hiding in a secret room within his home, The Jackal watches Bianca and Vince. With an ease that belies the gravity of his actions, The Jackal takes the lives of both individuals. It’s hard to comprehend what could have been going through their minds when they accepted this assignment, as it was painfully clear that The Jackal would not hesitate to kill them – and history shows he does exactly that, leaving no one alive.

In a hurry, the Jackal abandons his town and sprints to the airport to intercept Nuria as she departs without him. Before vanishing, she tosses her phone aside at the airport.

As the Jackal promises to find her wherever she does, a car crashes into the Jackal’s car.

At MI6, Isabel receives a significant advancement in her career, and she shares this news with Osi (Chukwudi Iwuji) during work hours. This announcement sparks a disagreement between them as they debate Isabel’s harsh treatment towards Vince and Bianca following their departure from the agency. The conversation takes a turn when they discuss the consequences of Vince and Bianca going “rogue.” Osi departs the room and removes an email from Bianca, which reveals that Isabel was indeed responsible for assigning them to the mission – a fact she is now denying.

At the end of the season, the Jackal encounters Zina. It seems they hadn’t received payment from Timothy for all their efforts during Season 1. As we move forward to Season 2, this is the current situation.

What to expect in The Day of the Jackal season 2

It’s worth noting that the production for season 2 of “The Day of the Jackal” has already begun, and the ending of season 1 clearly paves the way for the next chapter.

In the previous event, the Jackal informs Zina that he needs to locate someone first, before addressing his outstanding debt. Thus, it’s evident that they will collaborate in some manner when season 2 unfolds.

In the upcoming episodes, it seems that The Jackal will devote a significant portion of his time locating Nuria and her child. This emotional journey is central to this series. I suspect there will be a lot of back-and-forth between The Jackal and Nuria in the coming episodes.

Beyond this, it’s clear that the Jackal carries a price on his head, as Timoty Winthrop and his group are tidying up any remaining issues. Rest assured, the Jackal will undoubtedly make him pay in due time. It remains intriguing to see how long we’ll need to be patient.

It seems like he may have to work a few additional jobs just to ensure he’ll have sufficient funds available for him when he confronts Timothy.

It seems there’s quite a situation brewing at MI6. While Isabel appears content to hide it, we wonder if Osi will delve into what Bianca was investigating regarding the Jackal. Let’s find out in the next season.

We’ll keep you posted on updates regarding “The Day of the Jackal” season 2 as soon as we get any information! Keep an eye out for further production news about season 2.
