28 Years Later’s dark Cillian Murphy theory has been debunked
As a seasoned gamer and movie enthusiast who has seen his fair share of sequels that didn’t quite live up to their predecessors, I can’t help but feel a mix of relief and anticipation when it comes to the upcoming “28 Years Later.
A dark 28 Years Later theory that spawned from the film’s latest trailer has been debunked.
In the upcoming sequel of the highly anticipated zombie horror series, we find ourselves following Cillian Murphy’s character, Jim, who, in 2002’s 28 Days Later, was found to have woken up from a coma to a world devastated by a virus causing rage.
On Tuesday, December 10th, the complete trailer was released, and it subtly suggested Jim’s future by featuring a thin, zombified figure that looked like his character.
However, contradicting this speculation, someone with inside knowledge of the production has refuted it. They’ve shared that the zombie in question isn’t portrayed by Murphy, but rather by art dealer Angus Neill, as reported by The Guardian.
According to Neill, Danny mentioned that he had been thinking of him for the role from the start. After meeting and getting along well, Neill decided to join in.
As a gamer, immersing myself in a game with him was like stepping into a trance. His uncanny knack for captivating me made every moment spent collaborating on our virtual adventure incredibly intense and unforgettable.
According to Sony chief Tom Rothman’s comments to Deadline, Peaky Blinders actor Murphy will return to his role as Jim, but in an unexpected manner.
Regarding the film series this year, Murphy mentioned his desire to participate due to its transformative influence: “I’ve often expressed my wish to be a part of it since that movie revolutionized my career – I hold it in high regard and feel a deep connection with both Alex Garland and Danny Boyle. That’s the only film of mine I ever rewatch.
Every year around Halloween and during the pandemic, folks kept sending me video clips of something. I ended up showing it to my kids, and I must say, even though it’s been 22 years since it was first released, it’s still as captivating as ever! I can hardly wait for us to reunite as a band again to bring this classic back to life.
Besides Emma Thompson, you can expect to see Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson on the big screen as well for this movie.
28 Years Later is released in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
