Noddy Holder looks in good spirits as he steps out with his wife Suzan after being given just six months to live five years ago amid throat cancer battle
As an ardent fan of Noddy Holder, I find myself constantly inspired by his indomitable spirit and resilience in the face of adversity. Five years ago, when he was given only six months to live due to his throat cancer diagnosis, I never imagined that we would still be celebrating his life today. Yet here we are, marveling at his miraculous recovery, thanks to groundbreaking new treatments and his unwavering determination to defy the odds.
On a lively note, Noddy Holder, accompanied by his wife Suzan Price, ventured out in Manchester on a Thursday, despite his ongoing health struggles, maintaining an upbeat demeanor.
The 77-year-old musician departed from the BBC Breakfast studios following a diagnosis of throat cancer five years ago, which doctors had initially given him only six more months to live.
Five years back, he received his initial diagnosis for the illness. However, he chose not to disclose it until last October when he finally made the announcement.
He underwent a groundbreaking new form of chemotherapy at a hospital in Manchester which has helped keep him alive.
In an eye-catching ensemble, the lead singer of the rock group Slade donned a dark grey coat, a bold red scarf, and peculiar footwear, contrasting with Suzan who exuded elegance in a sleek leopard print fur jacket.
This week, he shared a new health report, explaining that medical professionals continue to monitor him closely, which is now five years since his initial diagnosis.
He shared with Sky News: “Five years ago, I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, but currently, they are regularly monitoring my condition.
Currently, I find myself in an equal position as others, despite initially receiving a diagnosis suggesting I have six months left to live.
‘So I’ve lasted the course, as it were.’
Last December he shared another update as he spoke on Radio 2.
At that moment, Noddy shared, “It was a close call. I ended up losing all my hair and weighed only around 12 stones. But every difficult situation has a silver lining.
Last week, I underwent a scan, and things seem stable for now. Here’s hoping this trend continues smoothly.
Joking, he added: ‘I’m fit, fit, fit… but I’m fit for nothing.’
In October, his wife, Suzan Price (age 57), shared the details of Noddy’s hidden health struggle in a heartfelt article she penned for Great British Life.
Five years back, we received the heart-wrenching diagnosis that he had esophageal cancer, with a prognosis of just six months left to live.
I apologize if this news catches you off guard; it took us just as much by surprise. In our efforts to navigate through it, we pulled together, sought refuge, and did all that we could to weather the storm.
We shared the news with our closest relatives and dearest friends alone, and I won’t offer any apologies to those who weren’t let in on our secret. Instead, my apologies go out to those who had to endure the pain and turmoil alongside us as we struggled to make sense of this frightening new reality together.
2004 saw Suzan tying the knot with Noddy; together, they share a son named Django. Prior to this, Noddy exchanged vows with fashion designer Leandra Russell in 1976 and welcomed two daughters, Jessica and Charisse. Their marriage ended in 1984 through a divorce.
At that point, Suzan stated that the singer behind “Merry Xmas Everybody” had maintained an optimistic perspective, even in the face of his health challenges.
He received treatment at The Christie Hospital in Manchester and underwent a groundbreaking new form of chemotherapy which has helped keep him alive.
Initially, there were no assurances, and it was uncertain if it would yield any positive results or perform extraordinary feats, but surprisingly, he responded positively. As those who have been diagnosed with cancer can attest, specialists tend to avoid the term “cure.” However, five years later, he’s feeling well and appearing in excellent health.
Slade earned themselves six UK Number One singles during their 25-year career.
In 1973, their most popular song was “Merry Christmas Everybody,” which became well-known for its catchy lyrics: “And so here it is, Merry Christmas to everyone, let’s have a good time!
The song is reported to bring in £500,000 in royalties alone each year.
