As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that seeing former Geordie Shore star Dee Nguyen announcing her engagement is indeed a heartwarming sight. However, it’s important to acknowledge her past missteps and learn from them.

Former Geordie Shore star Dee Nguyen has shared some happy news.

31-year-old reality TV personality, known for her contentious image, posted on Instagram on a Thursday, revealing her upcoming marriage as she accepted a proposal.

Dee posted photos showing her flaunting a large engagement ring alongside her partner, Oliver Diggins, both sporting big smiles.

The proposal came while the couple were holidaying in Palau in Micronesia.

In their recent social media posts, the happy couple, Dee in a vibrant red gown and Ollie fitting in with a tropical-themed top, beamed with joy.

In the caption, Dee spelled out the history of her relationship with her fiancé.

Two years ago, I affectionately called you “the pool boy,” but now that we’ve grown closer, you transitioned into my “boyfriend.” And today, I’m thrilled to address you as my “future spouse”, or simply put, my “fiancé”.

In 2022, Dee gained media attention once more due to criticism following her insensitive humor towards a disabled person’s Hinge profile in a TikTok clip.

In 2020, Dee, previously dismissed from MTV’s The Challenge following controversial remarks about the Black Lives Matter movement, faced criticism after posting a video of herself browsing a dating app in a seemingly carefree manner.

In the video, Dee was browsing on the app when she came across a message asking her to dance. Upon revealing this to her audience, it turned out that the person inviting her was a man in a wheelchair, prompting a smirk from Dee towards the camera.

Later on, quadriplegic artist and podcaster Kyle Montgomery shared the same video on his personal Instagram account to highlight Nguyen’s careless use of ableist language.

Ableism refers to discrimination in favour of able-bodied people.

After his post went viral, Dee returned to TikTok to make a public apology.

Just a few weeks back, I posted a silly TikTok video… When I stumbled upon Kyle’s profile, he replied to one of my prompts expressing his interest in dancing with me,” she shared.

As I scrolled through, I noticed he was in a wheelchair, which is perfectly fine. Continuing my scroll, I encountered one of his voice prompts stating, “If you don’t appreciate twisted, dark humor, then our connection might not work out.

She added: ‘Clearly, I found it amusing with the wordplay [funny play on words] and I never intended for sharing that video to appear as if I was making fun of him.’

When he informed me that he was extremely upset, I privately messaged him and expressed my apologies.

Later on, Dee showed Montgomery a snapshot of her original message where she explained that she didn’t intend to be hurtful and sincerely expressed regret for any offense caused.

She didn’t know how much her video affected Kyle, and the pain it caused him, but she was truly sorry for it, she noted.

‘I don’t like hurting people and it wasn’t my intention.’
