Kevin Bacon to attend a 25th anniversary screening of Stir of Echoes in Hollywood

As a self-proclaimed aficionado of all things supernatural and a diehard fan of timeless horror classics, I can hardly contain my excitement over Beyond Fest’s announcement! The 25th anniversary screening of the criminally underappreciated masterpiece, “Stir of Echoes,” is a dream come true for me.

Fans of the underrated 1999 movie “Stir of Echoes” have something to look forward to, as Beyond Fest has planned a special 25th-anniversary screening of the film in Hollywood on Saturday, December 15.

The movie “Stir of Echoes” was adapted from the novel “A Stir of Echoes” by Richard Matheson. But if you thought that this was his only successful work, you’d be greatly mistaken! In addition to “I Am Legend” and “The Shrinking Man,” Matheson also penned “What Dreams May Come.” Furthermore, his short story “Duel” has also been turned into a film.

His book “Hell House” was transformed into the movie “The Legend of Hill House”, the screen title for “Button, Button” is “The Box”, and “Bid Time Return” became the film “Somewhere in Time”, starring both Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve.

David Koepp was deeply appreciative of Matheson’s work and took on both the directorial and writing roles for “Stir of Echoes“. Kevin Bacon portrays Tom Witzky, a common telephone line worker who leads an ordinary life with a pregnant spouse and young child.

In the movie, it transpires that young Jake possesses an extraordinary ability, which Tom and his wife Maggie will uncover as the story unfolds. However, a chilling sequence of events kicks off at a social gathering. Maggie’s sister Lisa is quite convinced of supernatural phenomena, while Tom remains a skeptic. Yet, their perspectives shift dramatically when Lisa hypnotizes Tom, subtly implanting the suggestion for him to adopt a more open-minded approach.

In my perspective, the proposal seems extraordinarily effective, yet it’s unsettlingly so. Strangely enough, I find myself experiencing vivid dreams featuring 17-year-old Samantha Kozac, a young woman who vanished six months ago. To add to the enigma, young Jake frequently claims to converse with her as well.

The paranormal activity that Tom is experiencing starts to wear on his mental health, and Samantha tells him to dig…which he does.

Echoes of Fear” is an outstanding, ominous, and genuinely unsettling movie. Kevin Bacon gives a captivating portrayal, while Kathryn Erbe as Maggie, Zachary David Cope as Jake, Ileana Douglas as Lisa, and Kevin Dunn as Tom’s friend Frank deliver strong performances as well.

As a devoted viewer, I can’t help but sing praises for Jennifer Morrison’s chilling portrayal of the spectral Samantha. Each time she graced our screens, I found myself covered in goosebumps.

Unfortunately, it’s disappointing that such a great horror film didn’t attract a larger audience. This was perhaps because Stir of Echoes was released around the same time as The Sixth Sense and The Blair Witch Project, which were massive hits. It seems that the audience might have been divided too much for a third horror movie to thrive in such a crowded market.

Moving on, let’s discuss the exclusive showing of “Stir of Echoes“. This event will feature Kevin Bacon and David Koepp. If you’re interested in attending, it’s happening at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California, starting from 7:00 p.m.
