Kaya Scodelario admits she STILL gets paid less than male actors despite ‘spending 18 hours on set, breaking bones and destroying myself mentally for the sake of the character’
As a lifestyle expert with extensive industry knowledge and personal experiences, I wholeheartedly empathize with Kaya Scodelario‘s sentiments regarding the gender wage gap within the film industry. Having witnessed firsthand the struggles of women navigating their careers, I can relate to her frustration. Despite being one of Britain’s most prominent actors, it’s disheartening that she still faces this issue.
Kaya Scodelario acknowledges that she continues to earn less than her male peers, even though she has become a well-known and influential actor in the UK.
The Sussex-born star developed a cult following after getting her break as teenager Effy Stonem in popular E4 drama Skins.
Since then, she has featured in a series of hit movies, including the Ted Bundy biographical film “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” starring Zac Efron, as well as “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which co-stars Johnny Depp.
But despite her passion for the craft and love of set work, Scodelario, 32, insists there remains a significant financial disparity in male and female earnings within the film industry – much to her dismay.
She shared with FAULT magazine that she continues to cherish her work, and the aspect she adores most is dedicating approximately 18 hours on set, where she breaks bones and takes a toll on her mental health for the character. This part of the job is what she finds most enjoyable.
‘But also, it’s a career and a job, and there are parts of it that are still really hard for women. I’m acutely aware that I’m probably still being paid less than any male co-star I work with.
‘The stories I want to tell are harder to find – they just take more time.’
She stated: “It’s tough because I adore it so deeply, but I find myself in an enviable situation. I’m grateful, and I recognize that I have the privilege of doing a job I truly enjoy.
‘I’m so fortunate to do something artistic that we enjoy, but there’s still a long way to go
In my downtime, I’m delighted to share that I’ve reunited with my former partner, Benjamin Walker, following a heartfelt reconnection during an art exhibition in the breathtaking Maldives. This sweet reconciliation comes five months after we parted ways.
Previously wedded pair, with a shared family of two kids and an eight-year marital history before separation, graced the debut of Sassan Behnam-Bakhtiar’s newest art collection at Patina Maldives in July.
In December 2015, Bella Thorne (Scodelario) and Ben Walker tied the knot and are proud parents to a 7-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter.
The couple appeared intimately connected while striking a pose beneath the picturesque palms at the eco-friendly hotel’s special exhibit area, taking part in the exclusive unveiling of the sustainable art display titled “Life Energy.
In February, Kaya and Ben decided mutually to part ways in marriage, as expressed in a shared statement. They stated that although they have chosen to end their marriage, they will continue to parent their children with love and maintain a strong friendship.
They request that both their personal privacy and that of their children’s is preserved, allowing them to carry on with their family life.
In 2014, during the filming of The King’s Daughter, they crossed paths. At that time, the actor from Maze Runner was 22 years old, while his counterpart from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was 31.
Following a rapid courtship, they got engaged in December 2014, then got married the next December. They decided to share the same last name, Scodelario-Davis.
Previously, Walker was wedded to Mamie Gummer, Meryl Streep’s child, from the year 2011 until their separation in March 2013.
Previously, Sophie Cookson was in relationships with her “Skins” co-star Jack O’Connell and the actor Eliott Tittensor from “Shameless”. These relationships spanned from late 2009 until early 2014.
