As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the poignant narrative of Shirley’s relationships, I find myself moved by her resilience and the profound impact her past has had on her romantic journey. Her story is an intricate tapestry of love, loss, and self-discovery, woven together with threads of trust issues, abandonment, and a deep longing for connection.

Shirley Ballas admitted that her romantic life has taken a turn for the worse, following her separation from her partner of six years, Danny Taylor, last month.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share that the esteemed figure from Strictly, who’s been married twice and engaged four times, has recently expressed her deepest affections. She considers her son, Mark, aged 38, and her beloved mother Audrey, aged 87, to be the greatest loves in her life.

On the Great Company podcast featuring Jamie Laing, Shirley openly discussed her recent breakup with her partner whom she got engaged to in 2021. They first met during a pantomime performance at the end of 2018.

At the moment, I’ve separated from my partner. To be honest, my romantic experiences haven’t exactly gone as planned, one after another.

‘What turns me off is a liar, somebody who says they’ll be there and isn’t.

What I’m deeply appreciative of is the fact that my mother is still around, residing with me, and I get these priceless moments together with her.

‘My mother has always been the constant presence in my life, more so than any friends or relationships.’

Reflecting on my day, I can’t help but express my profound gratitude for having my son in my life. The path I walked led me to him, and through that journey, I was blessed with a grandson too. Without the experiences that shaped my journey, I wouldn’t have them both, making each step along the way all the more precious.

‘So, it’s fate, if you want to, it’s directions that you choose.’

Shirley was first engaged at the age of 16 to her then-ballroom partner Nigel Tiffany.

At age eighteen, she wed her dancing companion, Sammy Stopford, but their marriage endured for only four years. Subsequently, she fled to America with dance partner Corky Ballas from Texas.

They tied the knot in 1985 and welcomed son Mark the following year. The pair split in 2007.

Looking back at my past relationships, Shirley mentioned that she maintains a friendly connection with Nigel, the man who was once her intended spouse.

After that, I hastily departed with Sammy Stopford, and we swiftly climbed the ranks of dance. Subsequently, I journeyed to America, where I spent 22 years in marriage with Corky, before eventually parting ways.

‘Then I’ve had a couple of boyfriends, and that all ended in disaster.

Reflecting on my decision, I can’t help but wonder if I could have found a way to make the marriage successful. Was staying in this relationship the right choice? If only I had known then what I know now… Oh, the ‘should haves’ pile up!

The lead judge from the BBC went on to say: “I recently spoke with an old acquaintance, who happens to be my former spouse – yes, he was my first husband, just to clarify, as I’ve had more than one.

Every day, he tosses out a witty jab, as if it’s second nature to him. His son, the talented opera singer Samuel, is a testament to his charisma. In a moment of nostalgia, I shared, ‘If we hadn’t parted ways, you wouldn’t have Samuel and I wouldn’t have Mark.’ It’s a sentiment we both acknowledge, despite the anguish that came with our separation.

Shirley, who has been in therapy for 17 years, puts her failed relationships down to her dad George Rich walking out on her family when she was two-years-old.

It wasn’t until the passing of her brother David, who took his life in 2003, that she managed to reconcile with their father, George. Tragically, George passed away at the age of 83 in April 2021.

She acknowledged that she struggles with trust and, growing up without a nurturing family environment, she developed a tendency to become more closed-off emotionally.

Shirley explained: ‘I look back and I never had that example of that family environment.

I tend to be quite cautious in my trust towards others, a trait I believe stems from my experiences during my childhood, both the highs and lows.

From a young age, I had to rely solely on myself, and my father didn’t offer any assistance, not even buying me dance shoes. This experience seems to have left a certain toughness within me.

It seems Nigel might have been the ideal individual at an inconvenient moment. He was four years senior to me. He displayed kindness and care, which made him exceptional. Additionally, given that I hadn’t experienced such traits from a man, particularly in a fatherly sense, he may have filled a gap, catering to a need of mine that had long remained unfulfilled.

After our separation, I moved on with Sammy, and it turned out that he too shared the same emotions.

She went on to say: “Sammy and I have this bond, and despite attempts by others in our field to sever it, I believe it will endure until the day we pass away.

Over time, we’ve experienced both highs and lows. We’ve quarreled fiercely, like feuding cats and dogs, throughout the years, but despite our disagreements, he remains someone I can reach out to. In my deepest conviction, if my world crumbled tomorrow, he would be the one I could contact. He’d stand by me. This thought stirs strong emotions within me.

‘And Nigel, my first fiancé, is my financial adviser.’
