As a dedicated gamer with an unquenchable thirst for suspenseful narratives, I can confidently say that You season 5 has been my most elusive quest since the infamous “Where’s Waldo?” debacle of ’98. Much like the elusive Waldo, Joe Goldberg seems to have vanished into thin air, leaving me hanging and craving for more.
The fifth season of “You” is one of Netflix’s most eagerly awaited premieres, standing alongside the likes of “Stranger Things” season 5 and “Bridgerton” season 4. It appears that a two-year break between seasons has become common practice for the streaming service, especially for its more popular shows.
We were expecting that the fifth season of the series starring Penn Badgley would be released in 2024. The last time we saw new episodes was back in March 2023. It was indicated and even suggested when the psychological thriller initially received renewal news for its final season from Netflix. However, up until now, there has been no update on this.
It appears the delay in airing season 5 of “You” might be due to both actors and writers strikes. Back in May 2023, the writers ceased work, followed by a halt from the actors in July of the same year. The writers’ issues were resolved in September 2023, while the acting part didn’t get sorted until November.
Essentially, numerous TV shows and films that were under development were paused for several months, causing delays in many projects. Yet, most productions have managed to resume operations, providing us with the long-anticipated new content. Unfortunately, Season 5 of “You” is still not here yet.
It’s surprising that the filming wrapped up in August 2024, considering the minimal visual effects and post-production work required for a show like this. Given the timeline, I would have expected “You” season 5 to premiere by December 2024.
Well, I was hoping to find my much-anticipated series on Netflix this month, but alas, it’s nowhere to be seen. If they’re keeping the release under wraps and planning a surprise announcement, then it seems like we might have to wait until 2025 for it to drop. Fingers crossed!
It’s disheartening since we, the fans, were eagerly anticipating the next chapter of Joe’s, in a way, murderous story this year. What adds to the disappointment is that there hasn’t been an official release date announced yet. I get why the new season has been postponed, but it would be great if Netflix could give us a premiere date to look forward to.
