Watch Beyoncé’s sister Solange ATTACK Jay-Z in vicious elevator fight as family feud resurfaces
As a seasoned observer of the world of celebrity, I must say that the saga of the Knowles-Carter family never ceases to amaze me. Having followed their careers and personal lives for years, it’s fascinating to see how they navigate through the ups and downs of fame and family drama.
On May 7, 2014, at the Met Gala, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s joint appearance on the red carpet seemed like a snapshot of a flawlessly harmonious pair.
For six years they were wed, yet an incident unfolded when one of Beyoncé’s large rings fell off her hand. In response, Jay-Z gracefully knelt to retrieve it, playfully mimicking a proposal. The crowd, filled with joy, let out delighted giggles.
It turned out that it had been a false front all along, and within mere days, the truth was exposed when video clips surfaced, revealing one of the most startling brawls involving celebrities, a spectacle that still stands as remarkable to this day.
Footage from security cameras (originally purchased by TMZ for approximately $250,000) depicted Beyonce, her sister Solange Knowles, and Jay-Z exiting an elevator following a Met Gala afterparty at the fashionable The Standard, High Line hotel in Manhattan.
Initially, in a quiet, grainy black-and-white video recording, everything appears normal. Solange, who was 27 at the time, steps into the elevator on the 18th floor wearing a sherbet orange gown by Phillip Lim. Following her are Beyonce, aged 32, and Jay-Z, who was 44. A substantial security guard is also present with them.
However, just as the doors are about to close completely, events take an unexpected turn. Solange lunges at Jay-Z, pointing a finger accusingly, and begins to yell angrily. She then proceeds to strike and kick him violently.
In this scenario, if I were to describe my perspective as a dedicated follower, I might say:
As a diligent observer, I ultimately found myself stepping in to subdue Solange and guide her away from Jay-Z. However, despite my efforts, she continued to lash out forcefully with her high-heeled shoes, measuring about four inches each.
During the 58-second altercation, Jay-Z doesn’t respond aggressively. Instead, he seems to try and halt Solange’s actions by grasping her foot once, possibly as a way to prevent her from kicking.
In a surprising calm manner, Beyoncé momentarily intervenes to separate her husband and sister, yet it seems her main concern is ensuring the safety of her black, sparkling Givenchy dress’s train.
Afterward, the guard presses the emergency stop button on the elevator located on the twelfth floor of the hotel, effectively stopping the lift and closing its doors. This action seems intended to keep the elevator from descending to the ground level, where a group of photographers are stationed.
The video abruptly ends, resuming when the elevator descends to the lobby and its doors swing open. Beyonce and a security guard are noticeable as they step out first, suggesting some semblance of tranquility. However, Solange, seemingly provoked by her anger towards Jay-Z, lunges at him once more upon passing, striking him with her bag until a guard intervenes to separate them.
Leaving the hotel that evening, photographers snapped shots of Beyoncé trying hard to display a wide grin. On the other hand, Solange and Jay-Z seemed less able to maintain their composure.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I found myself in an intriguing situation: I, much like Jay-Z, was caught off guard as my companion stormed ahead. With a hand to my face, then my slightly disheveled shirt, I couldn’t help but feel a tad embarrassed. In the heat of the moment, he chose solitude, climbing into a vehicle and driving off. On the other hand, my companion and Beyoncé gracefully entered another car, continuing their journey together.
For more than ten years, speculation about what caused a bitter family dispute has circulated widely. However, a recent explosive legal filing from Sunday, which implicated Jay-Z, now 55, as a defendant in an updated lawsuit against disgraced media tycoon Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and alleged that Jay-Z sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl in 2000, has once again brought the matter to public attention.
In a shared statement soon after the 2014 incident, the trio attempted to move forward.
In their message, it was stated that Jay and Solange each took accountability for what transpired. They’ve both expressed their apologies to one another, allowing us to continue as a harmonious family unit… Regardless of any challenges, families face issues and ours is no exception. Our love for one another prevails, and fundamentally, we are all family.
However, skepticism persists among fans, as rumors about strife in Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s marriage have been heard before.
In the previous year, allegations surfaced suggesting that Jay-Z was unfaithful to Beyoncé with various high-profile women, including pop sensation Rita Ora and actress Gwyneth Paltrow. However, both women firmly dismissed these gossipy speculations.
However, it was Rachel Roy, a 50-year-old fashion designer who is known for being the former wife of Damon Dash, Jay-Z’s former business associate, that was mentioned most frequently.
In the aftermath of the incident, some of Beyoncé’s supporters asserted that the altercation in the elevator was ignited when Roy allegedly instigated Solange during the post-party festivities.
Unconfirmed rumors began circulating after neither Jay-Z nor Beyoncé addressed them, with insiders telling Page Six that there might be trouble in their marriage. The sources hinted at the possibility of them separating, but not divorcing, saying: “They are trying to find a way to part ways without legally ending their union… They believed having a child would revive their relationship, but it didn’t.
Their daughter, Blue Ivy, was two-years-old at the time.
In a 2014 version of her song “Flawless,” Beyoncé seemed to allude to the infamous elevator incident by singing: “In this place, just like elevators. Naturally, there are times when difficulties arise. When it’s about a billion dollars on an elevator.
In 2016, she released an album that many perceived as being about Jay-Z’s infidelity – ‘Lemonade’.
Multiple tracks from the album contain themes related to unfaithfulness, as evidenced by phrases such as ‘Down with the other women’ and the well-known line, ‘He desires me only when I’m absent. He should dial Rebecca with the stunning tresses.’
Supporters quickly attacked the “Becky” persona, swiftly blaming Rachel Roy and inundating her social media platforms with harsh comments and accusations, suggesting she was involved with someone else.
After stirring up more controversy, Roy posted an Instagram message that has since been deleted. The caption read, “Good hair isn’t important, but we appreciate good lighting – whether it’s for selfies or self-revelations. Embrace the light #nondramaqueens.
Instead, she subsequently refuted the accusations of cheating in an interview with People magazine, explaining that her social media post was intended as a playful jest, which unfortunately was misconstrued by some as something more serious. She emphasized that there is no basis to the claim that the song’s content pertains directly to her personally.
Apart from Roy, it wasn’t until a year later that the rumors about Jay-Z’s infidelity were substantiated. In 2017, New York Magazine published an interview with Jay-Z where he openly admitted to his infidelity, this confession coming shortly after Beyoncé had given birth to their twins.
In Jay-Z’s words, “Even when it comes to relationships with women, you’ll withdraw emotionally to prevent connection… For me, it runs quite profoundly, and that’s where a series of unfortunate events, like infidelity, begin.
Subsequently, it appeared as though Beyoncé had pardoned Jay-Z, restoring their marriage to a solid foundation. In an interview with New York Magazine, the rapper admitted that their music served as a form of ‘therapy’, helping them mend and recover.
Currently, the family finds itself back in the center of a contentious debate. However, despite Jay-Z vigorously refuting the sexual assault accusations made against him, Beyoncé has, for now, remained unwaveringly supportive of her partner.
On a Monday evening, they were spotted together with their 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, at the premiere for the Lion King prequel titled ‘Mufasa’.
After the dazzling affair, I was informed by a reliable insider to Page Six that I am resolutely standing by my partner, Jay. I have no plans whatsoever to part ways with him.
In my own words as a devoted fan, I can say that though Solange may not have publicly shown support for Jay-Z, it’s clear she stands firmly by her sister’s side. An inside source confided in me that Solange made sure Beyoncé understands she’s always ready to listen and offer comfort whenever needed: ‘Solange reassured Beyoncé of her unwavering presence and availability for any conversation they might need.’
She will be there for her sister ‘no matter what’.
