Netflix confirms release date for new Shondaland whodunnit with first look
As a binge-watching aficionado with a knack for unraveling mysteries and a soft spot for political drama, I can hardly contain my excitement for Shonda Rhimes’ upcoming masterpiece, “The Residence”! The wait is almost over, as it premieres on Netflix on March 20, 2025. With the stellar cast led by Uzo Aduba, Randall Park, and none other than Giancarlo Esposito himself, this screwball whodunnit promises to be a rollercoaster ride of intrigue and suspense set within the hallowed walls of the White House.
The Shonda Rhimes-produced mystery series titled “The Residence” now has its release date confirmed on Netflix, accompanied by a first glimpse image.
In this production from Shondaland, a captivating whodunit unfolds, centering around Detective Cordelia Cupp, portrayed by Uzo Aduba, as she delves into an enigmatic homicide within the walls of the White House.
Fans are anxiously looking forward to another crime-solving mystery, and Netflix has officially announced through their Twitter account that the “wacky murder mystery” will debut on the streaming platform on March 20, 2025. The post also features a picture of Aduba and Randall Park in their respective roles.
The story takes place within the White House – its upper, lower, and secretive areas. An unconventional detective named Cordelia Cupp is summoned to the scene to solve a murder that transpired during a formal gathering. As she delves deeper into the investigation, tensions between the 157 staff members begin to surface.
Apart from Aduba and Park, the ensemble of actors for the show also features Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Edwina Findley, Spencer Garrett, and Bronson Pinchot.
The eight-episode series, derived from Kate Andersen Brower’s book “The Residence: A Peek Behind the Private Lives of the U.S. Presidents and First Families at the White House“, has been crafted and produced by Paul William Davis, while Liza Johnson oversees the direction of the first four episodes.
Although viewers will need to hold off a couple of months before The Residence debuts, Rhimes still has numerous series running under her production company, as Bridgerton recently aired its third season this year.
Rhimes recently talked about the charm of romance shows, stating, “It seems people have a longing for something more straightforward, with guidelines for courtship. So we asked, ‘What’s the process of meeting someone?’
In those days, you met people by attending social events, through parental introductions, and sharing a dance. It appears that many find comfort in such a structured approach to finding love, as it seems to provide a set of clear-cut guidelines.
The Residence will premiere on Netflix on March 20, 2025.
