As a long-time fan of Marvel movies, I must say that the upcoming “Doomsday” film is shaping up to be quite the spectacle. The return of Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom is particularly exciting, given his stellar performance as Iron Man over the years. It’s fascinating to see how Kevin Feige and his team continue to think outside the box, ensuring that each new installment surpasses expectations.

It seems that according to reports, Chris Evans might show up in Avengers: Doomsday, and this news doesn’t sit well with fans who follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

43-year-old actor, who was recently seen in Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s movie “Red One” during Christmas, is rumored to be popping up in the studio’s upcoming crossover blockbuster slated for 2026, as reported by The Wrap.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris portrayed Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 and continuing up until Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

According to the latest reports, Chris Evans, popularly known as the ‘Red One’, might rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Avengers: Doomsday. However, it remains unclear what character Evans will portray in this movie. Previously, he played Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in Deadpool and Wolverine.

As a devoted follower of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of disappointment upon hearing the recent news. A multitude of fellow fans took to Twitter, even flooding popular accounts like Discussing Film, to voice their discontent.

One of the more popular replies featured a .GIF of a man violently banging the back of his head on the couch with the caption:  ‘marvel relying on nostalgia again.’

Critics derisively commented on Disney executives when they wrote: ‘PLEASE, PLEASE come watch this film! Look, we’ve brought all your beloved characters back!’

Ever since the thrilling news broke that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as the sinister Dr. Doom in the MCU, following Tony Stark’s tragic demise, I couldn’t help but wonder: Could Chris Hemsworth be set to return too? After all, he did such a marvelous job portraying Loki, so perhaps he might give us another twist as Dr. Doom instead!

A different user expressed the same idea with a more formal tone when they remarked: ‘I find it hard to comprehend how you skillfully constructed Endgame as a farewell for Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the MCU, only to bring them back for another Avengers movie immediately following Endgame.’

The ending of the 2019 hit film Avengers: Endgame might worry some viewers, as it shows Captain America, played by Chris Evans, returning the Infinity Stones to their original time and choosing to reside in the past with his one true love, Peggy Carter, portrayed by Hayley Atwell.

He returns as an elderly man to pass his iconic Captain America shield, and therefore the title of Captain America, to Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon (Anthony Mackie).

If the latest news verifies, it seems that Evans will join forces once more with his previous Avengers teammate, Downey Jr., who is set to portray the villainous Doctor Doom in the upcoming film titled Doomsday.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in July, it was confirmed that Robert Downey Jr., who played a central role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from its beginning with 2008’s Iron Man, and continued until Avengers: Endgame, will reprise his character as the next major villain in the franchise. Additionally, it was announced that directors Joe and Anthony Russo would be returning to direct ‘Doomsday’.

Following the reveal that he’d take on the role of the upcoming major antagonist, Downey Jr. shared details about how Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige proposed the part of Doctor Doom to both him and his wife Susan Downey.

During an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, he recalled: ‘Susan and I were sitting down with Feige at one point, and he said, “It just keeps occurring to me that, if you were to come back…” And Susan was like, “Wait, wait, come back as what?”

Eventually, it became clear to us both that this was yet another piece of evidence completely eliminating any lingering doubts anyone might have had regarding his character.

Feige is a deeply insightful and imaginative problem-solver, always asking questions like, ‘How do we avoid regression? How do we surpass expectations instead of just meeting them? How do we consistently exceed expectations?’

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but express my awe when I heard his mention of Victor von Doom. Delving into his character was like uncovering hidden treasures. And then, he emphasized, “We need to nail Victor von Doom. We must get him right.

Following the decision by the actor portraying Sherlock Holmes expressing interest in playing the antagonist, Downey Jr. and Feige visited Disney CEO Bob Iger at his home to propose the concept. Happily, they discovered that the executive was an avid supporter of their proposed plans.

Downey Jr. went on saying, “Then I asked Kevin if I could speak with Bob Iger. He asked, ‘About what?’ To which I replied, ‘Everything.’

In a fervor that only a true fan can muster, I found myself at Iger’s residence, seated across from him. With a heart pounding with anticipation, I began, “I can’t help but yearn to be…” He nodded approvingly, “I appreciate it.” And there it was, the acknowledgment I had been longing for – “He appreciates it.

Besides Downey Jr. and possibly Evans, it’s been announced that Anthony Mackie will don the Captain America suit in ‘Doomsday’, following his debut as the latest Captain America in the 2025 film, Captain America: Brave New World.
