Watch this spellbinding cover of the Game of Thrones theme song on sitar
As a long-time enthusiast of both music and fantasy series, I must admit that Ramin Djawadi’s masterful composition for Game of Thrones has left an indelible mark on my heart. The theme song, with its epic, sweeping melody, has been a constant companion throughout the years, setting the stage for countless hours of intrigue and adventure.
For more than a decade now, since its initial debut, I believe most fans would concur that the Game of Thrones theme song, brilliantly crafted by Ramin Djawadi, stands among the greatest TV themes ever produced. Its grandiose, epic sound is challenging to emulate, particularly when combined with the visuals – a breathtaking journey over a map of Westeros, offering glimpses of the upcoming episode’s locations. The prequel series House of the Dragon also adopted this theme song, and it continues to captivate audiences just as powerfully.
Over time, various interpretations of the “Game of Thrones” theme song have been produced, showcasing the inventiveness of musicians. Once, a person even covered it using calculators as instruments, demonstrating the extent of creativity involved. And these covers continue to be created! Recently, renowned sitar player Rishab Rikhiram Sharma performed his rendition of the theme at his Sitar for Mental Health concert in New York City this year. A video of his performance was shared on Twitter/X. You can watch it below!
Who would have imagined the Game of Thrones theme on Sitar would sound so beautiful and epic 🤯🔥

Over time, I’ve played this track numerous times, and it’s fascinating to witness Sharma adding a fresh twist to it. This is quite impressive.
As a music enthusiast, I’ve been captivated by Anoushka Shankar’s mesmerizing talent. Mentored by the legendary Ravi Shankar, who not only shaped my idol’s career but also left an indelible mark on the Beatles, places her in a league of extraordinary artists. This year, she made history as the first sitarist to perform solo at the White House, and her music continues to resonate across the globe today.
We’ll be able to listen to the Game of Thrones theme tune once more when House of the Dragon resumes for its third season in 2026. In the interim, we’ll also see the upcoming prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, although it remains unclear if the tune will be used again in this new series. Since A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to have a distinct tone compared to its predecessors, I’m eager to discover if the franchise can strike some fresh melodies instead. Despite my fondness for the theme tune, I’m equally excited about exploring new musical directions within the franchise.
