Drag Race Down Under star Max Drag Queen opens up about grieving the death of her mother on the national Stan series – following her shock elimination

As an ardent fan, I find myself deeply moved by Max Drag Queen’s heartfelt journey through Drag Race Down Under. The Melbourne queen, at just 25, has shown remarkable resilience and grace, navigating the public stage while grieving the loss of her mother mere weeks before filming began.

Max Drag Queen, a contestant on Drag Race Down Under, has shared candidly about the challenges she faced in coping with the loss of her mother amidst the public glare.

25-year-old resident of Melbourne, known as the Melbourne Queen, shared her story with Daily Mail Australia after being eliminated from the show on Friday. Tragically, she had lost her mother a month prior to the start of filming for the Stan series.

During episode three, Max found himself overwhelmed with sorrow, describing the experience as a deeply weighty emotion while participating in a widely-publicized drag contest.

‘It’s definitely a unique experience that I found myself in,’ she said.

Many people might not give much thought to this aspect when planning for Drag Race, but it’s an important consideration.

It seems they might not be considering this, as they never depict us returning to our hotels at night, nor do they show any downtimes or low moments.

She added: ‘They don’t think about, even in story world past episode three where I talk about it, how that grief might still be impacting that person.

‘It’s really heavy. Navigating it was difficult.’

Max continued, expressing his deep gratitude for having fellow queen Vybe with him during the entire Snatch Game. She had been a constant source of support, holding his hand throughout the event.

Speaking as a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but revisit episode three, where the producers shone the light on Max’s heart-wrenching ‘ordeal’ – that moment when she crumbled into tears during her runway preparation. And yes, I must confess, I chose to relive that emotional scene, as if wanting to share in Max’s journey all over again.

She mentioned earlier that it could be challenging to rewatch this particular episode, and indeed, finding it tough to watch the entire season again, is what she expressed.

‘I’ve been reflecting on my grief, and how it changed me. It’s a bittersweet experience, really.’

To this very moment, Max ponders whether it was wise for her to join Drag Race Down Under so quickly following her mother’s passing.

To this day, I’m left pondering whether I made the right choice, a question that may forever remain unanswered. I can only speculate if the moment was truly ripe for me to take action.

It seems I might need to accept this situation reluctantly. There were instances where I thought about leaving or removing myself from the equation altogether.

Yet, their supportive presence – akin to a strong and reliable team – encouraged me not to falter. The thought of their compassionate gestures brings tears to my eyes; it’s as if God himself is witnessing the love those ladies showered upon me.

Max left on Friday night during the sixth episode because she didn’t manage to win over the judges with her acting skills during the Maxi Challenge.

Despite acing her “Liquid Dreams” runway appearance, Max struggled to break out of her comfort zone during the Platypussies on Fire soap opera challenge.

All judges – including Michelle Visage, Rhys Nicholson, Isis Avis Loren, and Matt Okine – concurred that Max was an exceptional ’10 out of 10′ when strutting down the runway.

Regarding the Maxi Challenge, comedian Rhys, aged 34, noted that Max often mistook loud for funny, and expressed that her act wasn’t a guaranteed success.

‘It was very one note. There has to be levels,’ host Michelle, 56, agreed.

I was hoping to observe how you might react differently to the character portrayal by Rhys, thus revealing various aspects of the actress Max.

In the latest round, Max had to perform a lip-sync battle twice consecutively since the judges weren’t impressed with her performance, and this time she was up against Nikita Iman.

Last week, Max sent home Brenda Bressed when they landed in the bottom two together.
