Ryan Reynolds doesn’t expect there to be another Deadpool movie

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of superheroes, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia hearing about Ryan Reynolds possibly stepping away from his iconic role as Deadpool. The character has been a beacon of light in the otherwise dark and brooding universe of Marvel Cinematic Universe, offering a refreshing dose of humor and chaos.

Ryan Reynolds has indicated that it’s unlikely we’ll see another Deadpool film with him as the main character. However, he suggested there might be possibilities for his reappearance in the role as a secondary character.

In an interview with Variety’s Actors on Actors, Reynolds seemed to indicate that he might not be involved in any more Deadpool films.

Regarding queries about the future of the franchise, Reynolds shared his thoughts: “To be honest, I’m not sure. The character has a unique appeal in two aspects. One is scarcity and surprise – it’s been six years since the last film, and that’s partly because it consumes my entire life. I have four children, and I never want to become an uninvolved father.

He went on to say: “It’s just disheartening when I witness their sports activities or whatever and I happen to miss it. As for the future of Deadpool, I can’t say for certain, but what I do know is that we crafted the film as a standalone experience rather than just an advertisement for another.

Despite the triumph of Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024, Ryan Reynolds hinted that Wade Wilson might be more suited as a secondary character in another filmmaker’s project instead of starring in Deadpool 4.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “In the world of Deadpool, he’s more about backing up others than being the main act himself. However, we toss him into the limelight occasionally because that’s what the audience craves. But, you can’t spotlight him if you don’t strip him bare. You need to craft a scenario where he’s the ultimate underdog. I’m not sure I could pull that off again.

If he returns to the big screen, it’ll likely be for another filmmaker’s project. As for me, I’d gladly take on a supporting role in Channing Tatum’s next production, or any other director’s work for that matter.

Deadpool & Wolverine is now available to stream on Disney+.
