Emma D’Arcy gets Golden Globe nom for House of the Dragon, and other awards stuff
As someone who has spent countless hours glued to my television set, binge-watching series and movies, attending the Golden Globe Awards would be a dream come true for me! The energy, the fashion, the anticipation of who will take home the golden statuette – it’s all so exhilarating.
2025 Golden Globe Awards nominees have been announced, piquing interest for those who enjoy such events. In the film category, Netflix and A24 led the pack with 13 and 12 nominations each. Interestingly, Netflix also dominated in the television realm, garnering a total of 23 nominations, significantly more than HBO/Max, which received nine.
In the category of musical crime comedies, “Emilia Pérez” leads with 10 nominations, surpassing “The Brutalist” and “Conclave” with seven and six respectively. Despite their multiple nods, none of these movies were box office sensations. Blockbusters like “Wicked”, “Gladiator II”, and “Dune: Part Two” only received a combined total of eight nominations. Star of “Dune: Part Two”, Josh Brolin, expressed his intention to retire from acting if director Denis Villeneuve didn’t secure a nomination for the film. Regrettably, it appears Villeneuve did not receive a Golden Globe nomination for directing the movie, which could potentially mean less of Josh Brolin on our screens in the future.
Regarding the television nominations, “The Bear” topped with five nominations, followed closely by “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shogun,” each receiving four. “The Penguin” garnered three nods, including acting recognition for Colin Farrell and Criston Milioti. However, there seems to be a dearth of genre diversity in this year’s nominations, with notable absences such as “Interview With The Vampire” and “Arcane.” The absence of “Interview With The Vampire” has made me question the validity of these awards altogether, and I know my fellow editor Daniel Roman is furious about the lack of recognition for “Arcane.” Moreover, it’s puzzling that shows like “Fallout” and the yet-to-be-released second season of “Squid Game” are not recognized.
In a notable achievement, HBO’s upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel series, titled “House of the Dragon,” has earned a significant nomination. Specifically, this recognition goes to actor Emma D’Arcy for her role as main character Rhaenyra Targaryen. Here is the complete list, kindly provided by Deadline:
