The 4 best horror shows of 2024

As someone who has spent countless hours huddled under blankets, my heart racing and eyes glued to the screen, I must say that the horror shows of 2024 have truly outdone themselves! While some disappointments like American Horror Stories and Grotesquerie made me wish for a rewind button, there were several gems that left me utterly spellbound.

Among the horror series that either started or returned with a new season in 2024, which one would you be inclined to watch again due to its exceptional quality? Here are some options that come to mind!

In our top picks for the scariest TV series of 2024, you’ll find a mix of fresh productions and returning classics. However, before diving in, let’s briefly discuss some shows to avoid. Unfortunately, Hulu’s American Horror Stories and FX’s Grotesquerie, the latter being a series we’d rather forget! Indeed, they are that bad.

And as far as honorable mentions go, we have to give a shout to Them: The Scare and Dead Boy Detectives. Now, drumroll for our top four….

From season 3

Starting with MGM+, you’ll find an exciting blend of science fiction and horror elements. If you haven’t yet experienced it, you might be missing out as there are currently three seasons ready for streaming. The show debuted in 2022, with its latest installment (season 3) released on September 24, 2024. Among the stars gracing your screens are Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eion Bailey, and more. However, let’s delve into what makes this series captivating and why season 3 was particularly adored…

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: In this gripping series, I find myself trapped in a small town much like my favorite games. I play the role of Boyd Stevens (Perrineau), the sheriff who holds the reins of power. It’s my duty to keep the town safe from the terrifying creatures that prowl every night. As the seasons unfold, we uncover some chilling secrets that make me question everything I thought I knew. The story seamlessly weaves between different characters, but always keeps the focus on me and the challenges I face. There are unexpected twists lurking around every corner, not all of them jump scares! From has a knack for creating psychological thrills that leave you gripping your seat in anticipation.

Evil season 4

In 2024, the last installment of the show titled “Evil” aired and it concluded quite dramatically! The series focuses on an unusual team consisting of a forensic psychologist (Katja Herbers), a priest (Mike Colter), and a tech expert (Aasif Mandvi). Their mission is to investigate events thought to be supernatural, deciding whether they’re actually demonic or not. What I love most about the series, especially in its final season, is the chemistry between the three leads. Each episode they tackle presents something fresh and unpredictable. Now, you can catch all four seasons of “Evil” on Paramount+.

Don’t Come Home

It’s understandable if you haven’t seen it yet, as Don’ Come Home is a largely overlooked horror this year, but definitely deserves a spot on your watch list immediately. While the show isn’t purely a horror, it does blend elements of horror, thriller, and crime drama seamlessly. Additionally, it explores themes of motherhood and grief, and the ending will leave a lasting impression even after you finish watching.

The Thai series titled “Don’t Come Home” revolves around an inquiry into the mysterious disappearance of Min, a young woman who apparently disappeared from her own house.

Uzumaki

If you’re a fan of horror and anime, Uzumaki is a nightmare brought to life! This Adult Swim animated series originates from Junji Ito’s manga, and its screen adaptation has been anticipated for quite some time before its release this year. As with any project that transitions from page to screen, concerns about justice to the original work were inevitable. However, Uzumaki turns out to be remarkable. Being an animated series allows it to surpass the limitations of live-action adaptations, unleashing creative possibilities and delivering all the thrills and chills.
