Matt Smith in first look at new father/son drama coming in 2025
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various digital worlds, I can’t help but be intrigued by the upcoming drama “The Death of Bunny Munro.” The storyline, with its raw and gritty portrayal of a dysfunctional father-son dynamic, is not unlike some of the characters I’ve encountered in my gaming escapades.
Note: The following article references suicide.
Sky has released a first-look image of Matt Smith in his new drama The Death of Bunny Munro.
The actor known for portraying characters in “Doctor Who” and “House of the Dragon” takes on the role of Bunny Munro, a man who sells beauty products door-to-door and struggles with an excessive craving for sex. After his wife ends her life through suicide, he is suddenly tasked with caring for their nine-year-old son, Bunny Junior, yet lacks the necessary skills to raise a child.
On their journey through southern England, Dad embarked on a double mission: selling his goods and attempting to connect with females, while Son spent his time conversing with the spirit of his deceased mother.
As the six-part series progresses, the young boy begins to understand that his father, whom he deeply admires, is actually in disarray and not the role model he once thought. Meanwhile, Bunny gradually accepts that it’s essential for him to take action to prevent his child from following in his own footsteps and becoming a failure.
In a fresh new promo shot, I find myself, bare-chested and casually lounging in a laundry mat, a cigarette dangling from my lips. Nearby, the talented Rafael Mathé, who plays Bunny Junior, seems to be gazing at me with admiration.
If “The Death of Bunny Munro” seems recognizable, it’s because this film is based on a 2009 novel penned by musician Nick Cave. The screenplay has been crafted by Pete Jackson, who worked on “Somewhere Boy,” and Isabella Eklöf, known for “Industry.
Currently, Smith is working on several upcoming projects. One of these involves teaming up once again with a beloved guest star from Doctor Who, while another has him adopting a fiery red mohawk as a punk rock character.
In the year 2025, ‘The Death of Bunny Munro’ is scheduled for its television debut on Sky Atlantic. You can also stream it on Sky Go and NOW.
