David Tennant returning as host of 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for British TV shows and movies, I can hardly contain my excitement for next year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards! David Tennant’s return as host is like getting an upgrade on your favorite RPG game – it just makes everything better!

Similar to his return to the role of Doctor Who, David Tennant will be reprising another significant character next year following a successful initial appearance.

I can hardly contain my excitement as I share the news that I’ve been chosen to host next year’s EE BAFTA Film Awards! Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 16th, because the event will be taking place at the iconic Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London. I can hardly wait to see you there!

The program is set to air on BBC One and iPlayer, plus Britbox in the U.S. and Australia. More international broadcasters will be revealed at a later date.

This year’s event was seen by over 3.8 million people watching from home, and there were more than 20 million views of the ceremony highlights on BAFTA’s social media channels. For the third year in a row, we observed an uptick in ratings.

Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA, expressed her joy by saying, “It makes us incredibly pleased that David Tennant will be back to host the EE BAFTA Film Awards in 2025.

He’s a joy to collaborate with, and his work this year has been exceptional – full of warmth, humor, intelligence, and a playful spark.

It’s an honor to be part of the grand cinematic festival that Britain presents to television viewers globally. It’s also a chance to acknowledge the exceptional ingenuity of the individuals driving the creative forces behind both the UK and international film industries.

2021’s event kickstarted with an unexpected on-stage reunion involving Michael Sheen in a comically engaging skit, where Georgia Tennant, Stanley Tucci, Himesh Patel, Tom Hiddleston, and Dame Judi Dench made appearances.

Since it seems like there won’t be any new Installed episodes in the near future, here’s hoping that the 2025 BAFTAs will feature another entertaining sketch for us to appreciate.

Starting in 2025, the EE British Academy Film Awards will introduce a fresh Children’s & Family Film category. This is the first newly created award category in the past five years, along with updates to some of the voting and eligibility procedures.

On Wednesday, January 15th, we will discover which individuals have been officially nominated for the 2025 BAFTAs, after the initial nominee lists are unveiled on January 3rd.

The nominees for the 2025 EE Rising Star Award will be revealed on Tuesday, January 7.
