WWE Saturday Night Main Event 2024 Predictions: Randy Orton Will SCREW Kevin Owens

As a die-hard WWE fan who has been following the action since the days of Hulkamania and Macho Man, I must say that this upcoming event promises to be a real treat for us old school fans! With the throwback vibe and the potential return of legends like Goldberg, it’s going to feel like the good ol’ days.

The WWE Saturday Night Main Event is taking place this coming Saturday in Long Island, New York, at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. WWE has already confirmed four significant matches for this event, which are major title bouts that could significantly impact the path to WrestleMania 41. One of the most noteworthy title contests will be the crowning of the first U.S. Champion in the women’s division. As we gear up for the WWE Saturday Night Main Event 2024 Predictions, it’s worth noting that Randy Orton is set to exact revenge against Kevin Owens in their main event title match featuring Cody Rhodes.

Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Kevin Owens [WWE Championship]

Kevin Owens is upset that Cody Rhodes hypocritically teamed up with Roman Reigns to battle The New Bloodline at Bad Blood since Reigns has done nothing but manipulate everyone around him and made their lives a living hell during his reign of terror for the past three years. Since Cody is a very close friend of KO due to their association with Young Bucks, Owens is justifiably upset and the fact that Randy Orton, KO’s own tag partner, took Cody’s side in this mess due to their Legacy history did not make things any better. This storyline is deeper than anything else on this match card.

Although it’s understandable that KO is playing a villainous role during these contests, Cody will keep the WWE Title against KO because Cody needs to seek redemption for what KO did to Randy. KO exploited Randy’s weakened back and effectively left him incapacitated in the hospital. Randy has played a guiding role in Cody’s life, making this matter particularly personal for him. Regardless of Cody’s usual calm demeanor, he won’t let this go unaddressed. Orton may even make a comeback from his injury and sabotage KO to help Cody win. This would allow KO to save face in defeat as he begins his villainous journey towards WrestleMania.

Liv Morgan (c) vs. Iyo Sky [World Women’s Championship]

Iyo Sky clinched the title chance by triumphing in a surprise battle royal on Raw recently. Despite being a previous world champion and thus posing a significant threat to Liv Morgan, she doesn’t have a solid narrative reason to claim the championship at this point. The main storyline for Liv Morgan leading up to WrestleMania is undeniably Rhea Ripley, who deserves the heroic payoff during her reign of chaos. Therefore, Iyo Sky serves primarily as a transitional figure to rejuvenate Liv Morgan’s momentum as the champion, given that she has suffered several non-title losses against formidable opponents in the last few weeks.

Gunther (c) vs. Finn Balor [World Title]

It is quite peculiar that Finn Balor, who is already one half of the World Tag Team Champions, is rewarded with a World Title Shot after maliciously screwing Damian Priest in his World Title Match at Survivor Series. Although this is a choreographed pro wrestling show, rewarding anyone for such malignant behavior is baffling, and putting the idea of “Balor 2 Belts” into the universe is also pure monopolization in a land of opportunity. Furthermore, the fact that Balor did not even win a #1 contender’s match to earn this title shot makes this booking decision even more risible in retrospect.

Despite Finn being a previous world champion and thus posing a potential challenge to Gunther, his current circumstances don’t suggest a title win here. He lacks the narrative foundation and momentum needed for such an opportunity. This title fight appears primarily designed to escalate the tension between Balor and Priest, while also maintaining Gunther’s title supremacy. Essentially, WWE is using this match to serve two purposes at once – it sets up Priest’s betrayal of Balor, a revenge for Survivor Series, but also keeps Gunther strong. However, there could be an unexpected twist: the possibility that Damian Priest might not play fair in this title match.

Given that legends are said to make a comeback for this retro, nostalgic series, it wouldn’t be surprising if Goldberg crosses paths with Gunther following their title bout. Interestingly, Goldberg seems to have a stronger case for the championship than Balor, particularly after his heated exchange with Gunther at Bad Blood. At that show, Gunther accused Goldberg of lying about being his favorite wrestler to Bret Hart and called Goldberg a one-dimensional performer. Since this has been hinted at, it would make sense for this confrontation to unfold during the Rumble, much like how WWE arranged a match between McIntyre and Goldberg four years ago.

Bayley/Chelsea Green vs. Michin/Tiffany Stratton [U.S. Championship]

At this event, the victor from the semifinal match between Bayley and Chelsea Green will face off against the winner of the semifinal between Michin and Tiffany Stratton, who holds the MITB Briefcase. Although Bayley has a strong reputation in wrestling and winning this title would further enhance it, she doesn’t necessarily need to claim it given her victory at Mania this year. Similarly, Tiffany Stratton doesn’t require this title as her MITB Briefcase grants her a title match anytime, anywhere, making a double championship win unnecessary.

It would be fitting for this title to be won by a genuine mid-tier competitor such as Chelsea Green or Michin, who truly deserve it over others in this competition. Given that Green is currently more recognized than Michin, WWE might capitalize on her popularity now. Moreover, since the event takes place in Long Island, NY, Green’s husband Matt Cardona is likely to attend and witness this significant moment. To date, Green has shown remarkable skill, deserving of a title win. However, it wouldn’t be wise to simply use her as a supporting actor to bolster the roster; instead, an entertaining title reign for her could prove beneficial in the long run.

Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa [Personal Rivalry]

For this event, there’s an additional match being considered for inclusion in the two-hour broadcast. Roman Reigns hasn’t definitively decided if he’ll attend, but if he does, his potential opponent would be Solo Sikoa. At WrestleMania 40 in April, Reigns lost the WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes, but returned in August to sabotage Sikoa during his World Title Match with Rhodes at SummerSlam. Later, in October, Reigns pinned Sikoa in a tag team match alongside Rhodes at Bad Blood.

In their recent matches, Sikoa reclaimed his position by pinning Reigns during a six-person bout at Crown Jewel in November, while Reigns retaliated by pinning Sikoa at Survivor Series War Games. However, these encounters were multi-man tag team matches, and they have yet to face off one-on-one. The New Bloodline continues to dominate SmackDown, with Reigns as their primary target. As The Rock is set to make his comeback on the road to WrestleMania 41, it seems fitting to resolve this feud with a victory for Reigns before The Rock takes center stage and overshadows the New Bloodline.
