Disney confirms 2025 as the last chance to ride Dinosaur at Animal Kingdom

As a long-time Disney enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Animal Kingdom since its grand opening, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions about the upcoming transformation of Dinoland U.S.A. into Tropical Americas. On one hand, I’m thrilled at the prospect of an Indiana Jones-themed attraction and the first-ever Encanto ride-through experience. The idea of immersing myself in these beloved Disney worlds is truly exciting!

The Animal Kingdom is experiencing a significant change as Dinoland U.S.A. is being rebranded into Tropical Americas. Since its opening in 1998, the ‘Dinosaur’ ride has been a key feature of the park, but it will eventually be swapped out for a new attraction inspired by Indiana Jones.

Experience one of Animal Kingdom’s most exhilarating rides, EMV – Dark Ride, where you embark on a rollercoaster adventure through the tumultuous Cretaceous era. Your mission? Rescue an Iguanodon from impending extinction and transport it safely to the Dino Institute!

The 2000 animated movie, titled similarly, hasn’t garnered the same level of popularity as more recent Disney productions that have followed. Essentially, Dinoland U.S.A. felt rather like a low-budget fairground. Consequently, it wasn’t unexpected when Disney unveiled their plans to revamp it into a Tropical Americas, featuring an Indiana Jones experience and the debut of an Encanto-themed ride-through attraction.

There’s quite a buzz about the fresh Tropical Americas section in the park, yet there’s also a tinge of melancholy due to the shutdown of an iconic attraction that’s been part of the park since its beginning. The closure of original rides stirs up feelings of nostalgia.

Construction for the new Tropical Americas at Walt Disney World is scheduled to start in early 2025, but Disney has yet to specify an exact closing date for the Dinosaur attraction. However, in a recent update about upcoming attractions in 2025, Disney confirmed that the year 2025 will mark the final opportunity to enjoy the Dinosaur ride before it is permanently closed.

During your stay, don’t forget to check out the dinosaur exhibit at DINOSAUR. We’ve earlier mentioned that this attraction will be closing to make room for the new Tropical Americas land. So, 2025 is your chance to see it before it disappears!

Since Animal Kingdom has limited rides, Disney might be aiming to keep it operational as long as convenient while focusing on other developments of the upcoming land. It’s possible they may choose to wait until the winter of 2025 when the new Zootopia 4D show is scheduled to open before considering a closure.
