In this latest movie, several cast members from the 1988 version returned for their roles, including Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz.

However, it’s worth noting that one prominent original cast member, Jeffrey Jones, who played the eccentric character Charles Deetz in Beetlejuice, is not featured.

In the movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Jones’ character is not present, but we learn about his fate. This grim turn of events prompts Lydia and her distant daughter, Astrid, to revisit Winter River. They come back for Charles’ funeral and to decide on the future of their old home.

In a September 2024 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Alfred Gough, one of the writers for the movie, explained why he decided to eliminate the character of Charles. According to Gough, this decision was made so that the film could center around Lydia, Delia, and Beetlejuice. He stated that Charles’s death served as the catalyst for this change and revealed that the concept behind Charles’s death scene came from the movie’s director, Tim Burton, who envisioned it as his own nightmare of dying.

It seems you’re wondering why Charles’ passing was depicted as an animated stop-motion sequence instead of having Jeffrey Jones portray the scene in live action. Here’s a simpler explanation: Due to Jones’ past legal issues and public controversies, he may not have been able to participate in the film production. 2002 saw him being taken into custody due to owning illegal child pornography and employing a 14-year-old boy to take suggestive photographs of himself. Ultimately, he received a probation sentence lasting five years and must register yearly as a registered sex offender.

It is widely believed that the absence of Jones in the movie “Beetlejuice” was due to his ongoing legal problems, as these issues and the accompanying unfavorable media attention may have led to his exclusion from the film’s production.
