NASCAR: Comcast decision spelling uncertainty over 2025 schedule?
As a lifelong NASCAR enthusiast with more years spent glued to my TV than I care to admit, this latest news about Comcast spinning off NBCUniversal has left me with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. I’ve grown accustomed to the rhythm of races shifting between NBC and USA Network during the season, and the thought of change can be a bit unsettling.
Comcast intends to separate the cable television networks under NBCUniversal, such as MSNBC, CNBC, USA Network, Oxygen, E!, Syfy, and the Golf Channel.
As per Jayski, it’s unclear at this point if this will affect NBC’s broadcast schedule for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series.
In the exciting world of NASCAR, I’m thrilled to be part of the shift that brings a fresh seven-year media rights deal worth a staggering $7.7 billion! This means my favorite races will now be broadcast on NBC, Amazon Prime Video, and TNT Sports, with NBC’s coverage reducing from 20 to 14 races. Previously, NBC had a unique partnership with Fox for a decade, but now we have more partners to share the thrill of NASCAR!
During NBC’s portion of the schedule, races have been split up between NBC and USA Network.
In 2024, NBCUniversal switched out NBC Sports Network with another channel for their broadcast during their schedule, as NBC Sports Network ceased operations at the end of 2021. This new channel displayed 10 races on each day.
2025 finds me preparing for a shift in racing events on NBC; they’re slated to reduce from ten to just four. Meanwhile, USA Network keeps its lineup intact with ten races still on the roster, ready and waiting for gamers like myself.
The broadcast schedule was recently unveiled for the 2025 season, and it showed that the regular season finale at Daytona International Speedway, plus the final three races of the playoffs at Talladega Superspeedway, Martinsville Speedway, and Phoenix Raceway, are set to be shown on NBC, while the other 10 races remaining on the schedule, starting with the early August race at Iowa Speedway, are set to be shown on USA Network.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m eagerly looking forward to the 2025 NASCAR season, with confidence that no matter what changes Comcast brings, Steve Phelps, the President of NASCAR, assures us that we’ll have all the information needed to tune in and catch every race, not just the Cup Series events.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming changes! Starting from next year, the CW Network will be taking over the broadcasting duties of the Xfinity Series completely, having already tasted a bit at the end of the 2024 season. This means that NASCAR is effectively welcoming three new partners to the mix next year, and I can’t wait to see what this collaboration brings!
In 2025, the NASCAR Cup Series will kick off with the 67th Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, February 16. The Xfinity Series season is set to begin a day earlier on Saturday, February 15. Prior to that, the annual preseason exhibition race for the Cup Series, known as the Busch Light Clash, will be held at Bowman Gray Stadium on Sunday, February 2.
