6 Netflix shows that definitely won’t be back in 2025

However, after carefully considering each show’s production timeline and the sheer volume of upcoming releases, it seems that a few of our beloved series might have to wait their turn.

It’s likely you’re aware that Netflix has an exciting array of new series set to premiere in 2025. However, this also implies that some well-liked Netflix shows won’t debut in 2025; instead, they’ll be delayed until 2026.

Typically, the list of Netflix series not returning next year is quite extensive. However, due to certain production challenges, this year has been relatively quiet in terms of new releases compared to usual Netflix standards. Contrastingly, 2025 promises a flood of popular Netflix shows returning for additional seasons, which means there will be an abundance of new content – more than what you’d normally see! In particular, we can expect fresh episodes from series like Stranger Things, Wednesday, Squid Game, Ginny and Georgia, and numerous others!

As a devoted viewer, I can’t help but feel excited about the plethora of Netflix series that are either currently being filmed or will start production by early 2025. However, it’s still uncertain whether we’ll be able to catch these shows towards the end of 2025 or if we’ll need to wait until 2026 for their debut seasons. Titles like Avatar: The Last Airbender, a new season of Virgin River, and many others are part of this intriguing lineup. Realistically, there seems to be enough time for these shows to air by the end of next year, but given the numerous blockbuster series slated for 2025, it’s likely that some shows might get postponed until 2026.

Allow me to bring up a small point before we dive into the list of Netflix series not returning in 2025, and that is, Bridgerton will be leading the way.

Bridgerton

In the bloom of spring 2024, the third installment of the popular series “Bridgerton” debuted on Netflix. This latest season garnered an immense response, surpassing even the second season’s success, although it didn’t quite reach the heights scaled by the first season. Excitingly, the plot for “Bridgerton” season 4 has already been developed, focusing on the characters Benedict (portrayed by Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha). Regrettably, fans will have to wait until 2026 before they can stream this new season.

The filming of Bridgerton’s fourth season has already begun, with production starting in September 2024. However, it appears we might need to wait another two years after season 3 before watching season 4, as confirmed by Jess Brownell. Despite efforts to speed up the process, the series is currently following a “two-year pace,” as stated by Forbes.

The soonest you can expect Bridgerton Season 4 on Netflix is around early 2026, and there’s a possibility it could take even more time.

Outer Banks

In simpler terms, I’ll really miss watching “Outer Banks” on Netflix in 2025! It was exciting that we got new seasons in consecutive years for the first time since 2021, but it seems unlikely that season 5 of this series, which is the last one, will be available on Netflix in 2025.

Reports indicate that Outer Banks is planning for a fifth season, but they won’t begin shooting until at least spring 2025 at the earliest. It seems there haven’t been many updates since the announcement of the renewal for The Three-Body Problem series. Although it’s exciting to know that the series will carry on, it appears unlikely that it will air next year if production hasn’t begun by now. From what we can gather, filming doesn’t seem to be underway as of yet.

Regardless of whether “The Three-Body Problem” could have been released by the end of this year, it seems highly unlikely that Netflix would premiere it amidst an overabundance of fresh content this year. Without a doubt, we’ll see it in 2026.

The Gentlemen

As a gaming enthusiast, I was looking forward to diving into “The Gentlemen” series, hoping to explore its world in 2025. However, my anticipation was met when the first season of this Netflix original show, featuring Theo James, debuted on March 7. Exciting news followed shortly as Netflix announced a second season for the series. But, alas, after some puzzling updates about its future, it appears that this show won’t be making a comeback in my 2025 gaming calendar.

Similar to numerous series on this compilation, the manufacturing process needed to commence by the end of 2024 for a 2025 debut. However, it appears that The Gentlemen will not start production until 2025 instead. There have been some indications and announcements in Production Weekly suggesting that season 2 could begin filming as early as 2025, which is promising news. Regrettably, even this timeline doesn’t alter our speculation that The Gentlemen season 2 will likely arrive on Netflix in 2026.

In simple terms, it is highly expected that the second season of “The Gentlemen” will be one of the most eagerly awaited premieres in 2026. However, don’t anticipate its release to happen in 2025.

Black Doves

The Netflix original series titled “Black Doves” is unlikely to return for a second season in 2025, despite the early renewal for another season prior to its premiere on Dec. 5. This move is unusual, but it may lead to the release of “Black Doves” season 2 ahead of schedule rather than in 2025.

The first season finale of “The Black Doves” certainly lays the groundwork for what’s to come in season 2, but as of now, it doesn’t appear that production has begun. This could be a challenge given the show’s late release schedule, leading some to wonder if the second season will premiere in 2025. However, it’s not definitively off the table just yet.

For “Black Doves” Season 2, it’s confirmed and slated for a release in 2025. However, the production timeline is yet to be disclosed, and it remains uncertain if the series will meet this deadline. Assuming immediate start of production, there could be a possibility for “Black Doves” Season 2 to premiere by Christmas 2024, given that the first season consisted of six episodes, and a similar format may be followed for the second season.

So, it’s much more likely that Black Doves season 2 is coming in 2026.

Emily in Paris

Among all the Netflix shows listed, “Emily in Paris” is most likely to return in 2025, though that doesn’t mean it should. Other shows on this list have slim chances. The fate of “Emily in Paris” will depend on some deliberation.

Based on information available, it’s expected that filming for season 5 of “Emily in Paris” will commence in early May 2025. This series tends to have a quicker production process than many others, thanks to the dedicated work of its creative team and crew. If filming starts in May, it should be completed by no later than September or October. If this timeline holds, we might anticipate seeing season 5 premiere as early as the remaining months of the year.

It seems unlikely that situation will unfold as you suggest. Given that numerous significant Netflix series are slated for release in 2025, it’s hard to imagine them having only a few major shows in 2026 if they wrap up all productions from next year within the year. Even though “Emily in Paris” might be among those shows for 2025, it’s questionable whether Netflix would have limited offerings in 2026 under such circumstances.

As a gaming enthusiast eagerly awaiting Emily in Paris Season 5, I find myself in a bit of a pickle. With Netflix packing their schedule with numerous high-profile shows for 2025, it seems like they’ve decided to push back the release date to 2026 instead. Given how fantastic Season 4 was, this news has left me feeling quite bummed out!

I won’t get upset if Emily in Paris or similar shows air in 2025, but unfortunately, that’s not feasible.
