Apple TV’s ‘Mistborn’ Adaptation Gains Traction in Major Script Update

Apple is planning to create a large-scale fantasy series that could compete with popular franchises like The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Dune. The project, based on a popular book series, has been in development since 2010, and it appears Apple TV+ is finally moving forward with it.

Author Brandon Sanderson recently shared an update on the upcoming Mistborn adaptation in a YouTube video. He revealed the script is about 50% complete, and Apple is pleased with the project’s progress, offering positive feedback. Sanderson is personally writing the screenplay and is heavily involved in adapting his fantasy series. Apple intends to develop Mistborn into a full movie franchise, starting with Sanderson leading the writing process – a good indication of what’s to come.

This script update follows Apple’s recent acquisition of the rights to Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive in a landmark deal. It’s another effort to bring the Cosmere universe to the big screen, after previous attempts to make a Mistborn film failed. If this new adaptation succeeds, Apple plans to create a Mistborn movie trilogy and expand the universe with additional projects, particularly as TV series. Currently, the plan is to adapt The Stormlight Archive for television, though the project’s development stage is still uncertain.

More to come.
