As a die-hard Strictly Come Dancing fan, I’ve been following Giovanni Pernice‘s journey since his debut on the show. His talent and charisma have always left me spellbound, but this past year has been quite tumultuous for him. It seems like he needs a well-deserved break after the BBC investigation into allegations of bullying, which thankfully cleared him of ten out of sixteen claims.
Giovanni Pernice has spoken up regarding his potential future with the BBC, expressing uncertainty about his continuation on Strictly Come Dancing following a challenging year.
The 34-year-old dance professional acknowledged that he required some time off, as the BBC initiated an investigation into his conduct due to accusations of bullying made by Amanda Abbington.
The BBC cleared the Sicilian of ten out of 16 allegations when its probe concluded in September.
For the first time discussing his plans with the BBC, Giovanni openly expressed his desire for a rest, acknowledging that Strictly Come Dancing has become quite demanding.
Speaking on the How To Be Famous podcast with former Strictly contestant Debbie McGee’s nephew James Phelan, Giovanni said: ‘As I said before, you never know what is going to be next.
Indeed, much like many other professions that demand complete dedication, they can be quite exhausting, as you’ve rightly pointed out.
‘When I said I need a break, I need a break, but never say never?’
Additionally, towards the culmination of his ‘Adventures in Travel’ series alongside Anton Du Beke, aged 58 and a renowned judge from Strictly Come Dancing, Giovanni subtly suggested something as well.
Previously, the duo traveled to Sicily, which is Giovanni’s homeland, as well as Spain. However, Giovanni confessed that they are uncertain about the show’s prospects moving forward.
He confessed: ‘No we don’t know yet. I think the budget for the BBC is quite low so we just keep doing what we are doing.
‘It’s a shame because it was a successful show, I think it had over four to five million viewers.’

In the fifth week of last year’s series, Amanda suddenly left the show, giving personal reasons as the explanation. Later, she leveled accusations at the dancer, claiming his behavior was both unkind and harsh.
It came to light that Giovanni would not be participating in this year’s 20th anniversary series, as the BBC was carrying out an examination of his conduct.
Although ten accusations against Giovanni were dismissed, six were substantiated, with some alleging bullying and harassment. This led to an apology from the management at the BBC.
Additionally, the BBC concurred with Amanda’s viewpoint that there were instances where his feedback seemed excessively critical towards her.
