As someone who has followed Steve Mensch’s career closely for many years, I am deeply saddened by his passing. His impact on the film and TV production industry was immense, not just in Atlanta but globally as well. From his time at Third Rail Studios to his groundbreaking work at Tyler Perry Studios, he always left an indelible mark wherever he went.

Sadly, Steve Mensch, head of Tyler Perry Studios, has sadly passed away at the age of 62 after a devastating plane accident on Friday evening in Florida.

The individual, not just anyone but the head of overall operations as well, was flying a solitary cockpit aircraft when it met with an accident on a city street in Homosassa, according to reports by TMZ over the weekend.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share the news that the accident took place on none other than West White Dogwood Drive, just a stone’s throw away from the bustling US Highway 98. What a twist of fate!

The cause of the plane crash is currently under investigation.

Steve is survived by his wife and also their three children.

Tyler Perry Studios shared their deep sadness with DailyMail.com over the loss of their cherished friend, Steve Mensch.

Steve had been an adored and respected part of our team for over eight years, and he was deeply admired within the Atlanta community.

As a lifestyle aficionado, I can’t help but reflect on the radiant spirit that always graced the corridors with his infectious smile. His absence will be deeply felt, and my thoughts are with him and his loved ones during this challenging time. Sending out heartfelt prayers to his family, hoping for their strength and comfort during these difficult days.

Steve assumed the role as president of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta starting from 2016, following the actor’s acquisition of the 330-acre property back in 2015.

The studio is located at the former Fort McPherson army base, and contains 40 buildings, 12 sound stages as well as 200 acres of greenery and backlots.

A variety of locations, such as the White House, baseball stadiums, courthouses, historical neighborhoods, grand estates, police stations, and eateries, are also on offer for filming purposes.

Previously, during an interview for their website, Mensch was noted as being among the most significant figures in the movie and television manufacturing sector within the state of Georgia.

He possesses leadership skills in areas such as daily operations management, long-term planning, financial allocation, growth strategies, and promotional activities within prominent corporations in his field.

The discussion seemed to unfold during the studio’s shift from Greenbrier to Fort McPherson.

Steve pondered over the transformation of the studio, once a military base that was established as an army post in 1867.

In his own words, he shared that the most awe-inspiring aspect of his role is stepping into the office every day. The weight of history created within these walls and the choices made that shaped our world are as he put it, profoundly humbling.

Later on, he mentioned that the property, spanning over 330 acres and featuring a historic district of approximately 40 buildings from around 1880, makes TPS a remarkably distinct and practical setting for shooting activities.

Steve mentioned that, aside from Perry’s personal projects in television and cinema (like “The Walking Dead”), other external television and film productions based in Atlanta have also made use of the studio there.

Under Tyler’s guidance as our main producer, it’s reasonable to anticipate that our studio will consistently expand its array of services and amenities to cater to the evolving requirements of our creative team.

Additionally, Mensch was able to express his perspectives on collaborating with Tyler, a renowned figure whose works include Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Beauty in Black, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and Madea’s Family Reunion.

Working with a creative innovator, who spearheads the plan for building a sanctuary for artistic minds, is immensely invigorating for me.

He further continued that, ‘Tyler Perry Studios is making history where history was made.’

Prior to taking up the role as president at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Steve previously held the position at Third Rail Studios in 2016, as per his LinkedIn profile.

Previously, he served as both the president and CEO of the Qingdao Oriental Movie Industrial Park, more commonly known as Wanda Studios Qingdao, which is situated in China.

For a span of nine years, he held two positions at Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta: one as the Director of Studio and Location Operations, and another as the Director of Strategic Production Partnerships.

1985 saw Steve earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management, with a general focus, from the University at Buffalo.
