Formula 1: Late TV change confirmed for final race of 2024

Formula 1: Late TV change confirmed for final race of 2024

As a die-hard Formula 1 fan with decades of races under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu as we approach the season finale. The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is shaping up to be another nail-biting race, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Originally planned as the penultimate race of the year, broadcasted on ESPN2, the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina Circuit has now been moved to the 24th race of the record-breaking season and will be aired on ESPN.

Initially, ESPN2 broadcast four out of the first twenty races of the season, with plans to air three out of the last four on the same channel, except for the Las Vegas Grand Prix which took place at the Las Vegas Strip Circuit two weeks ago and was shown on ESPN instead, marking the start of the season-ending tripleheader. In total, ESPN aired 11 races in the beginning of the season, while ABC handled the remaining five.

As a gamer, I’ve just learned that the recent delay in schedules means ESPN2’s coverage of racing events has concluded, leaving only six more races to be broadcast after the Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit last weekend.

The Mexico City Grand Prix at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, held in late October, had wrapped up the segment assigned to ABC.

ESPN adds 13th Formula 1 race in 2024

Now, ESPN will handle about more than half (50%) of the 2024 schedule, as opposed to initially planning to broadcast all 12 of the 24 Grand Prix races.

Here you can find the starting grid for the entire Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The event will take place as a 58-lap race, winding through the 16 turns of the 3.281-mile (5.28-kilometer) track situated on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The broadcast plan for the year 2025, including 24 races, hasn’t been finalized yet. However, regardless of whether a race airs on ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC, Sky Sports will be providing the coverage. Moreover, thanks to Mercedes-Benz, it will continue to be commercial-free.

Listen in on ESPN this coming Sunday, December 8th at 7:55 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) for the live telecast of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix from Yas Marina Circuit, marking the end of the 2024 Formula 1 season. The pre-race coverage will kick off at 6:30 a.m. ET. Sign up for a free FuboTV trial today to ensure you catch every moment of the excitement!
