A new illustration from a notable artist to create some last minute attention

On X (previously recognized as Twitter) and Instagram, the Prince and Princess of Wales recently posted a picture crafted by Charlie Mackesy. As stated on the artist’s official website, Mackesy is a renowned artist, illustrator, and bestselling author who currently collaborates with Oxford University Press.

In the scene captured in this image, I find myself among a diverse group, including adults, kids, and our beloved pet, making our way towards Westminster Abbey. There’s a subtle conversation between two individuals in the photo, where one wonders “What role did I play?” The other replies, “[You] were with me every step of the way, and that meant everything.

The text in the image seems appropriate, considering all that the Royal Family has experienced this year.

Last month, Prince William expressed that 2024 was the most challenging year he’s experienced thus far. He faced the double blow of both Princess Catherine being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment, as well as the diagnosis of his father, the Prince of Wales, with cancer. Previous reports indicated that these health issues were revealed just weeks apart. On top of this, William had a demanding schedule filled with global public appearances, leaving him with minimal personal time to manage his mental wellbeing and process all the sudden news he was receiving.

It’s likely that the carol service at Westminster Abbey provided an opportunity for everyone in the Royal Family to unwind and enjoy the festive atmosphere of the holiday season. In about two weeks, 2024 will draw to a close, and the royals will be faced with a flurry of public events, press obligations, and business commitments as they usher in 2025.
