Susanna Reid, 53, gets into the festive spirit in a red velvet suit as she joins youthful mum Sue Smith, 82, for Royal carol concert at Westminster Abbey – after grilling co-host Ed Balls’ wife on live TV
As a seasoned observer of the dynamic world of media and politics, I find myself captivated by the unique situation unfolding between Ed and his wife, Ms Cooper. It’s not every day we see a real-life power couple navigating their personal and professional lives so publicly.
On Friday, Susanna Reid attended a carol service along with her mother, Sue Smith, which was organized by The Prince and Princess of Wales and took place at Westminster Abbey.
At the occasion, the 53-year-old host exuded elegance in a sophisticated ensemble consisting of a dark red velvet suit, complemented by a delicate chiffon blouse with a pussy bow detail.
Susanna accessorized her matching attire for her television appearances on Thursdays by adding shimmering pumps and carrying her necessities in a stylish leather bag.
As I huddle against the winter’s bite, bundled up in my long, cozy black coat, and swathed in a vibrant, attention-grabbing purple scarf around my neck, I can’t help but feel a surge of admiration for the remarkable Sue, who at 82, continues to grace us with her presence.
With bright smiles on their faces, mother and daughter strolled together into the famous establishment, linked at the elbow.
In seven days, Susanna is planning a celebration for her 54th birthday. Last year’s birthday party left her fans stunned when they found out her actual age upon seeing a selfie she posted with her mother Sue.
Currently, the presenter posted a delightful photo on Instagram, capturing a special moment with her mom Sue during her birthday celebration, which they both enjoyed together.
The striking mother-daughter duo went makeup-free for the snap, showing off their natural beauty as they beamed down the lens.
As a lifestyle aficionado, I found myself delighting in the outpouring of warm wishes on this special occasion: “Happy Birthday to you, an everlasting enigma of beauty and grace ❤️”; “I hope your birthday was truly exceptional, Susanna, and that you continue to embody youthfulness as if it were yesterday xxx”.
Wow, you appear to be in your early thirties despite being 53! I hope this special day has been wonderful for you 🙂 x
During Thursday’s Good Morning Britain broadcast, Susanna’s co-host Ed Balls temporarily relinquished his hosting responsibilities for the second time this week in order to prevent an interview with his wife, who serves as Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, from taking place.
Susanna conducted the chat solo as she spoke to the politician, who was in Berkshire, via a zoom link.
After ITV admitted that he wouldn’t be permitted to question his spouse anymore, a somewhat uncomfortable situation arose following the uproar in August.
Previously serving as a cabinet member for the Labour Party, Ed, aged 57, maintained a quiet demeanor during a discussion where his co-host probed his spouse on topics ranging from immigration statistics to public trust in politicians.
When the program resumed following a commercial interlude, the camera focused solely on Susanna, suggesting that Ed might have stepped away from the studio momentarily.
Susanna joked, “Today, the Prime Minister plans to reveal that each community will be assigned a reachable police officer as part of their effort to combat crime.
‘So, we’re joined by the Home Secretary who’s in charge of our police – Yvette Cooper.’
In the interview, I acted as an intermediary, keeping Ed off-camera so he wouldn’t be directly involved in questioning.
It’s the second time this week that Yvette has been on the show so Ed has taken a back seat.
On Wednesday, as Susanna prepared for the interview, Ed mentioned, “Since she is my wife, I will abstain from this particular conversation.
In August, during a broadcast, when Ed conversed with his wife on the show, many viewers deemed the conversation as extremely awkward, due to concerns about potential conflicts of interest. However, despite these concerns, supervisors maintained that they both acted in a professional manner, and there were no rule violations involved.
Many individuals lodged formal protests with the regulatory body concerning the breakfast program segment where Yvette was interrogated regarding the Labor government’s management of the riots.
Before losing his seat in the House of Commons in 2015, Ed previously held positions as Education Secretary and shadow chancellor. Since then, he has embarked on a new profession in television.
On August 5, he inquired from his wife if law enforcement treated the protests led by far-right activists and those supporting Palestine unequally.
Ed, accompanied by his three kids, replied, expressing that the police must act impartially, without regard for the nature of the crimes they encounter.
As an ardent admirer, I inquired about her perspective: Was there a difference in the way law enforcement was handled, perhaps a preferential treatment? And I wondered, has the police force been more lenient and measured during the Gaza protests compared to their approach in the preceding week, which seemed tougher?
Prior to the interview, Ed shared with viewers that he had some sincere queries for Ms. Cooper, as he hadn’t spotted her much at all during the past week due to the recent turmoil.
Next month, the head of ITV assured that similar scenes won’t occur again, even though Ofcom chose not to launch an investigation.
