Today Extra star Davina Smith’s shock new role is revealed as hosts Tim Davies and Belinda Russell pay tribute to her upon her exit from the program after 10 years

On the program last Thursday, hosts Tim and Belinda invited longtime news reporter Davina, age 42, to appear as part of a heartfelt goodbye. They took the opportunity to express their gratitude for her dedicated service throughout her career with us.

Tim started by saying, “For the past ten years, Davina has been a part of our mornings, delivering the news to us. Today is a mix of sweet and bitter emotions as it’s Davina’s final day with us.

‘You have been here for ages, way before us! No one does this job better than you,’ Belinda added.

Later, Davina grew teary-eyed while expressing gratitude towards her dedicated viewers who had faithfully tuned into the hit morning program throughout her tenure.

Davina expressed her heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I couldn’t be more thankful. This job is simply the best I could ever ask for. The people working unseen are remarkable, and it’s an immense privilege to work alongside such a talented team.

‘We tell so many stories and are so lucky!’ 

Afterward, the hosts shared a heartfelt message from the absent Today Extra star, David Campbell, who praised his longstanding partner in a warm and effusive manner.

David expressed his gratitude by saying, “It’s truly an honor to have sat beside you and worked alongside you. Throughout this time, I’ve gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from your expertise.

It’s clear that we’ve shared plenty of good times filled with laughter and playful teasing, not to mention the numerous times you’ve playfully tossed pens my way!

Let me express my heartfelt admiration for you, not just as a journalist, but as a fellow human being and especially as a parent. Your presence will truly be missed, dear friend, and I fear the day may bring tears to my eyes.

Instead of gracing our screens on her current program, she’ll be making a dynamic shift towards another highly-acclaimed Channel Nine show – A Current Affair.

‘You’re not going too far, which is good! A Current Affair is very lucky to have you,’ Tim said.

The co-hosts then gave Davina a bouquet of flowers as they tearfully bid her farewell. 

It’s thought that the well-known television personality might take on the role of a field reporter alongside Allison Langdon on the popular show.

After she left Today Extra, longtime Channel Nine employee Charles Croucher paid a heartfelt tribute to Davina on various social media platforms.

‘Yesterday Nine News Sydney said goodbye to Davina,’ Charles began.

‘She was always the rock during chaotic breaking coverage. So calm, so measured, so professional. 

‘I loved every moment we got to work together and lived by the rule of follow Davina’s lead.’

Since 2011, Davina has been a dedicated employee at Channel Nine’s Brisbane station, contributing extensively to both their news and morning crews in several different Australian regions.

Moving to A Current Affair allows Davina to devote additional time to her spouse Mark and their two little girls, Hope and Rose.
