As a seasoned music critic with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the news about Dead & Company returning to Sphere next spring has me reminiscing about the good old days. The Grateful Dead were a band that truly defined an era, and their legacy continues to live on through this incredible collaboration with John Mayer.
Dead & Company are headed back to Sphere.
The jam band formed by the remaining members of the Grateful Dead, together with singer-songwriter John Mayer, announced on Wednesday that they will be performing a 18-show series at a cutting-edge dome-shaped venue in Las Vegas next spring. This comes just under a year since the group concluded a successful 30-show run there.
The Sphere concerts, scheduled for next year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Dead & Company’s formation in 2015, are planned to start on March 20th and continue through May 17th. This group consists of John Mayer, along with original members Bob Weir on guitar, Mickey Hart on percussion, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti, and drummer Jay Lane from the Dead.

A fresh biography, penned by ex-The Times pop music critic Robert Hilburn, focuses on the life of the 81-year-old melodist and composer.
Dead & Company announced that they will be enhancing next year’s performances with revamped visuals on Sphere’s expansive, high-resolution video screen. In a previous interview with The Times this summer, band member Weir referred to their first residency (which concluded in August) as an ongoing project and expressed his desire for increased interaction between the musicians and the team managing Sphere’s visual presentations.
Eventually, technology will advance to such an extent that it will anticipate our destination and prepare a small surprise for us when we get there,” Weir explained.
2025 residency tickets will be up for grabs starting December 13, featuring exclusive pre-sales and VIP packages beforehand. Currently, The Eagles are in the midst of their Sphere tour that extends till mid-April; other artists who’ve performed at this venue include U2 and Phish.
In October, Phil Lesh, a founding member and bassist of the Grateful Dead (but not part of Dead & Company), passed away at the age of 84. Meanwhile, it was announced by the Recording Academy that the Grateful Dead would be recognized as the MusiCares Persons of the Year for 2025. An all-star benefit gala is scheduled to take place on January 31 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
