Emotional Amber Davies says starring on Strictly Come Dancing ‘annihilated’ her as she addresses why she has been off sick from Legally Blonde musical

Amber Davies revealed she’s been taking sick leave from ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’ and explained that appearing on ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘ last year was incredibly difficult for her, leaving her feeling overwhelmed.

The 29-year-old actress had to stop appearing in the show for now because she became sick.

Amber recently discussed what happened on her podcast, ‘Call To Stage With Amber Davies,’ openly sharing details about her health and explaining how her demanding work schedule negatively impacted her.

She shared that she realized she needed to pay more attention to her physical health, as she became quite sick after the opening night of her show.

After weeks of hard work rehearsing and creating the show, she was already feeling weakened when she got the flu, and it quickly spread to the rest of the cast.

Despite feeling unwell, she pushed through, determined not to let anyone down.

She shared that she was sick, and then developed a chest and sinus infection, so her doctor prescribed antibiotics.

She started to feel better, but went back to work prematurely, which she later realized was a mistake. The infection hadn’t completely gone away, and she regretted rushing her recovery.

She prioritized the success of the production and the needs of others, even at the expense of her own well-being. She felt compelled to keep things moving forward, despite her own health concerns.

Her health suddenly took a turn for the worse. She remembered barely being able to make it to the theatre, as she quickly lost her energy and her voice started to give out.

She quickly realized something was terribly wrong and had to create some distance. Medical tests later revealed her infection levels were extremely high.

You know, I was remembering a time when I really listened to my body. I had a show to get to, and I was actually supposed to be the driver, but honestly, I just didn’t have the energy. I realized it was okay to prioritize my well-being and let someone else take the wheel that day.

I hopped in the back of an Uber and suddenly realized something was really off with me. I just sat there thinking, “Oh my god, something’s seriously wrong.”

I really didn’t want to take another day off work. I’d just been sick a few weeks earlier, and I didn’t want to seem like I was constantly calling out.

As soon as I began the show and stepped onto the stage in my Elle costume and wig, I completely froze. My voice seemed to disappear, and I suddenly felt incredibly weak – I just wanted to get off the stage as quickly as possible.

After Sirius passed away, I reached out for help. Everyone at work understood I was struggling and were incredibly supportive and understanding.

Amber is now on the mend after receiving a long course of antibiotics and steroids to fight a serious infection.

Looking back on what happened, she acknowledged feeling bad about overdoing it, but explained it was a much-needed lesson. She promised herself she’ll always listen to her body’s signals from now on.

During the podcast, Amber shared that she received an offer to join Strictly Come Dancing right before beginning rehearsals for Legally Blonde. Even though she was hoping to relax, she didn’t feel she could decline the opportunity.

She was surprised by the call from Strictly, explaining she had no way of anticipating it. She added that it’s an opportunity she couldn’t possibly refuse.

‘I think I underestimated how much Strictly was going to annihilate me and chew me up.

It was absolutely the best experience of my life, and I’d repeat it endlessly. I truly loved every part of it, even dealing with negative people.

I was completely exhausted after doing Strictly. When I sometimes see clips from the semi-finals and final online, I can tell by my expression that I was really checked out and not fully present.

That was the most challenging experience of my life. I pushed myself to my absolute limit, both physically and emotionally. By the end of it, I felt completely changed, like I’d lost myself.
