As a binge-watching enthusiast with a knack for spotting behind-the-scenes intricacies, I must say I was thoroughly captivated by the unique process that unfolded during the making of Netflix’s “Black Doves.” The fact that Ben Whishaw and Omari Douglas felt compelled to voice their concerns about a scene and ultimately had it re-shot speaks volumes about the level of involvement and dedication from the cast.
In the recently debuted spy series by Netflix, titled “Black Doves“, a significant scene was altered following input from its leading actor, Ben Whishaw.
In the thriller produced by Joe Barton, Michael Whishaw takes on the role of hitman Sam opposite Kiera Knightley as undercover agent Helen, a spy.
In the heart of this story, I find myself deeply engaged as I follow two intriguing characters whose love lives are nothing if not tangled. I’m caught up in Helen’s quest for vengeance over the loss of her lover, Jason (Andrew Koji). Simultaneously, the return of Sam’s ex, Michael (Omari Douglas), adds another layer of complexity due to his unconventional profession.
In that particular interaction between Sam and Michael, Whishaw and Douglas felt uneasy and proposed an adjustment. Eventually, their suggestion led to the reshooting of the scene.
“We had a discussion as the scene didn’t feel quite right to them,” Barton told Metro.
“It was a scene where they were deciding whether or not they wanted to get back together, and it was about why you would do that and how you’d feel about your ex boyfriend being a hitman, and all that kind of stuff. We changed it and then we filmed it again.”
The cast of the eight-part series has been completed with additions from Andrew Buchan, Adeel Akhtar, and Sarah Lancashire. Notably, these talented individuals have previously starred in shows such as “Broadchurch,” “Fool Me Once,” and “Happy Valley.
Discussing her part in the show, Lancashire expressed her excitement for portraying a unique character, which differs from her past roles.
As I delve into this unique character, I find myself in uncharted territory, for no one I’ve encountered before is quite like her. She carries an air of solitude, but there’s a depth within her that’s palpable. Her life, I believe, has been drained by a cause that may have denied her the joys of love, family, and friends – a stark reality.
All episodes of Black Doves are available to stream on Netflix.
