Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage steps out at Wicked screening with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo
As a theatre enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical world of Broadway, I must say that “Wicked” has been a delightful addition to my repertoire. The adaptation is faithful, the performances are captivating, and the presence of Peter Dinklage as Doctor Dillamond adds an unexpected charm.
The film “Wicked” boasts several appealing aspects. It’s an engaging, spirited interpretation of the renowned Broadway musical. It features two exceptional leads in Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, both possessing incredible vocal talents. Furthermore, it stars Peter Dinklage, known for his role as Tyrion Lannister in “Game of Thrones,” as a charming, talking goat character.
In the film, Peter Dinklage’s portrayal of Doctor Dillamond – a wise, elderly goat professor and political captive – may not be flashy, but it is powerful. Despite having limited screen time, Dinklage delivers a convincing performance as this character who is being suppressed by an authoritarian Wizard of Oz regime. I found myself yearning for a more tangible representation of Doctor Dillamond, such as the stage show’s goat-man costume, instead of the digital effects used to animate him. Despite my enjoyment of the movie, I felt that the CGI animals seemed too much like typical computer-generated creatures, and I would have preferred a puppet or costume approach for better visual coherence.
To put it another way, Peter Dinklage recently attended a special showing of “Wicked”, joined by his fellow cast members. This is worth mentioning because he’s typically reserved when it comes to public appearances. I find the image below particularly interesting as he seems to be wearing the flowing skirts from the “Wicked” poster, making it appear as if Elphaba and Glinda’s gowns are part of his attire.
And he is with Cynthia Erivo, Elphaba herself:
Additionally, you can observe Dinklage along with Erivo, Grande (as Glinda), Slater (Boq), producer Platt, and director Chu.
In “Wicked: Part 2”, set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025, Peter Dinklage is set to reprise his role as Doctor Dillamond. If the film follows the stage production, things could turn quite grim for the elderly goat character. I’m already hooked!
