Disney's Snow White live action movie is snoozing its way to low expectations

As a lifelong Disney enthusiast and someone who grew up with the original Snow White etched into my childhood memories, I must admit that the recent trailer for the live-action remake left me feeling more than a tad disheartened.

Once Upon A Time…

As a passionate Disney enthusiast, it’s hard not to notice the similarities between the upcoming live-action remake of Snow White and the classic fairytales that have captivated us for generations. Given the legendary status of the 1937 animated version that set new standards in its time, I was expecting nothing less than extraordinary from this new adaptation. However, the trailer has left me a bit puzzled, to put it mildly.

Discussing a controversial twist in Disney’s planned live-action remake of a classic Brothers Grimm tale, featuring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot: The initial buzz suggested this film would be a huge hit; however, its trailer has been met with criticism due to subpar CGI dwarf representations and questionable casting choices. Whether the storyline will redeem it remains to be seen.

Back in 2022, Ms. Zegler seemed to change the narrative about the remake.

She’s not going to be saved by the prince or dreaming about true love

Rachel Zegler

Instead, the actress aimed to reimagine the primary character as a feminist-like figure. Known for her snow-white skin in the original tale, this characteristic is no longer relevant. The name Snow White was bestowed upon her by her loving parents, a moniker that symbolized her miraculous survival of a severe winter storm. Will the reinterpretation and modernization of this classic story resonate with contemporary Disney viewers or fail to captivate them? Only time will reveal the answer.

It’s worth noting that the costumes for both Snow White and the Evil Queen in the upcoming 2025 film are stunningly captivating, offering a highlight amidst the preview. Regarding the dwarfs, their depiction leaves much to be desired, but the forest creatures coming to life is exactly what we’d hope for from this renowned animation studio.

At a certain juncture, there was actually discussion about whether dwarves might be substituted with enchanted beings instead.

Sneezy, Sleepy, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Bashful, and Happy survived the storm of controversy.

Upon unveiling their upcoming movie lineup for the year 2025, as per the Q4 earnings report disclosed by Disney, it came as quite a surprise that there was no reference to “Snow White”. Given its hefty production cost of $209.3 million, this absence from their future projects is rather startling.

We remain just as excited about 2025, with a collection of highly anticipated releases, including Captain America: Brave New World, Lilo & Stitch, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Zootopia 2, and Avatar: Fire and Ash.”

It could be said that the Walt Disney Company may be preparing for a significant setback this coming spring, or alternatively, they might be adjusting expectations to a point where disappointment would barely register.

Currently, the trailer for this upcoming movie hasn’t managed to impress critics or Disney enthusiasts. Still, we have four more months before it hits the big screen on March 21, 2025.

Until then, we must wait to see if this live action movie is indeed the fairest one of them all.
