Brian Cox takes aim at ‘overrated’ Johnny Depp, ‘pain in the a**e’ Edward Norton and ‘f***ing annoying’ co-star Jeremy Strong as he calls out Hollywood’s biggest names

Brian Cox recently launched a scathing criticism of several prominent Hollywood actors, bluntly calling them unintelligent, pretentious, and deeply unpleasant people.

The actor, best known for playing the ruthless Logan Roy on the show Succession, recently announced that as he approaches his 80th birthday, he plans to speak his mind freely.

Oh my gosh, he finally talked about all the big stars! He was reminiscing about his career and just spilled everything he really thinks of them. I’ve been waiting forever to hear his honest opinions – it’s like a dream come true!

Apparently, Brian rejected a role offered by the governor in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and he was actually glad he did, feeling it wasn’t the right fit.

He stated he didn’t want to work with Johnny Depp, feeling the actor is excessively dramatic and doesn’t deserve the praise he receives.

He didn’t hold back when talking about other famous actors, describing Edward Norton as difficult to work with, Kevin Spacey as foolish, and saying Ian McKellen’s performances weren’t for him.

He didn’t stop with his criticism of Hollywood, also calling Quentin Tarantino shallow, Michael Caton-Jones a terrible person, and David Hare ridiculous.

Brian recently told The Times that while he respects actors who fully commit to their roles, he found his ‘Succession’ co-star Jeremy Strong‘s method acting to be frustrating.

Brian shared that his wife worries he can be too direct and honest, and that he doesn’t always soften his approach when speaking his mind.

He decided he was done holding back. Approaching eighty years old, he figured it was time to speak his mind, no matter what others thought. He simply didn’t want to worry about being careful anymore.

Brian has been married to Nicole Ansari-Cox since 2002, and they have two sons: Orson, 24, and Torin, 21.

He might later wish he’d listened to his wife, especially considering he’s offended people in the past with his comments.

Last year, Daniel Day-Lewis responded to Brian after the Scottish actor criticized method acting, calling it ‘American nonsense’.

Daniel is known for his acting method, a demanding rehearsal process where actors try to fully become a character by drawing on their own personal experiences to understand and portray the character’s feelings and motivations.

Brian mentioned this while talking to Variety, where he was complaining about how seriously Jeremy got into his role on the set of Succession.

He explained it was a difference in how things are done. He doesn’t tolerate what he sees as overly emotional or self-absorbed American work styles, preferring a straightforward, task-focused approach. He wants people to simply get the job done, without needing to constantly share their feelings or personal thoughts.

‘Of course, Jeremy was Dan Day-Lewis’ assistant. So he’s learned all that stuff from Dan.’

After Brian Cox made some critical remarks, Daniel explained to The Big Issue that he’d once worked with Cox and unintentionally got caught up in a minor disagreement between them.

Brian is a talented actor with a remarkable track record, and he’s now very vocal about his opinions – it doesn’t seem like he’ll be stopping anytime soon.

‘Any time he wants to talk about it, I’m easy to find.’

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Back in 1997, all three of them were in this movie called The Boxer! Brian and Daniel were the stars, of course, totally carrying the film. But get this – Jeremy was Daniel’s assistant on set! Can you imagine? Even then, I just knew he was special, watching him work with my idols. It was magical!

Daniel added, “The thought that I might have disrupted his work would be terrible.”

I disagree with that assessment, and I’m not sure where that idea originated. Jeremy Strong is a talented actor, and while I’m not familiar with his process, I don’t feel I had anything to do with it.

While Brian is best known these days for his role in Succession, he has an illustrious career.

Brian was the first actor to play Hannibal Lecter in Manhunter.

He’s known for his roles in many popular movies, such as Rob Roy, The Long Kiss Goodnight, Super Troopers, The Ring, Adaptation, X2, Red Eye, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

He received a Golden Globe in 2020 and a Primetime Emmy Award for his work on Succession. He was also appointed a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in 2003.

Brian is a highly regarded Shakespearean actor who has appeared with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, including a memorable performance as King Lear.

He has also won two Olivier Awards for his performances in Rat in the Skull and Titus Andronicus.
