Black Doves season 1 ending, explained, and how it sets up season 2
As a devoted fan of gripping dramas that delve into the complexities of human nature, I found the finale of Black Doves to be nothing short of thrilling. The plot twists and turns left me on the edge of my seat, with each episode building anticipation for what was to come next.
In the final episode of “The Black Doves” season 1 titled “In the Bleak Midwinter,” all the lingering plot threads are wrapped up in a tidy package, resembling a festive Christmas gift.
Following Sam’s (Ben Whishaw) abduction by the Clarks at the conclusion of episode 5, he finds himself in the same room as Kai-Min Chen (Isabella Wei) and Eleanor (Gabrielle Creevy). The Clarks are keeping them captive. However, Helen Webb (Keira Knightley) has a strategy up her sleeve, having viewed the tape and being aware of the true events!
Who killed the Chinese Ambassador?
In a hidden tape found by Helen Webb within Jason Davies’ jewelry box (played by Andrew Koji), it is disclosed that Trent Clark, the next-in-line of the influential Clark family who secretly manipulate the British government, accidentally killed Ambassador Chen. The incident occurred at Kai-Ming’s apartment where Trent intended to deliver heroin but encountered a confrontation with Ambassador Chen regarding his daughter’s drug supply. During their altercation, Trent accidentally pushed him off the couch, causing the ambassador to fatally hit his head on a coffee table.
Trent uses connections with the Clarks and influential politicians like Stephen Yarrick (Sam Troughton) to ask for help, but this action leads to a significant misconception among the Chinese, American, and British governments. The Chinese thought the recording demonstrated a CIA operative murdering Ambassador Chen, however, that wasn’t accurate.
Who killed Jason?
In a surprising turn of events, Helen and Williams (Ella Lily Hyland) use Trent Clark as a pawn to lure Alex Clark (Tracey Ullman) into the same room with Sam, Kai-Ming, and Eleanor. Originally planning to kill Alex in retaliation for killing Jason, Helen changes her plans when Alex claims innocence regarding Jason’s death, stating she doesn’t know who committed the crime. Skeptical at first, Helen asks Williams (who was guarding Jason’s apartment) to dial the number that hired him. To everyone’s shock, it’s Trent who answers the call!
Trent enlisted the services of Elmore Fitch (Paapa Essiedu) to carry out the act of killing Jason. He attempted to conceal the homicide. Simultaneously, a violent confrontation erupted outside between the Chinese and CIA, causing quite a disturbance within the room. Helen ended up taking Alex’s life, while Sam was responsible for both Alex’s death and her assistant’s as well.
As soon as the gunfire subsides, a phone begins to ring. Sam picks it up. A voice on the other end says, “Your actions have been observed and you will face consequences.
It seems unlikely that eliminating the leader of a criminal network would go unpunished so effortlessly. Let’s delve deeper into that topic as it hints at some significant developments in the plotline for season 2.
Wallace Webb is set to become the Prime Minister in Black Doves season 2
Following my takedown of Trent and Alex Clark, I handed over the incriminating video to the American forces. Mitch Porter, a buddy of mine who’d obtained the tape’s whereabouts from Reed, then shared this intel with Wallace Webb. He revealed that my late friend Stephen Yarrick was on the tape, and shockingly, he had implicated some high-profile individuals – among them, our Prime Minister, Richard Eaves, who was discovered to be in cahoots with the Clarks.
As the tale unfolds, it’s clear that Helen will carry on with the Black Doves. Reed shares this information with Helen not long after Wallace learns about it too.
Reed reveals Jason was an MI5 agent, but he was loyal to Helen
At a later time, Reed encounters Helen in a church setting. After some reflection, it becomes clear to Helen that everything is connected. However, Reed discloses a shocking truth: Maggie, their mutual friend, was secretly gathering information about Kai-Ming and the Chinese for sale to the tabloids and the Black Doves. Meanwhile, Trent, the culprit who assassinated Ambassador Chen, had managed to locate Helen during one of her lunches with Jason.
Reed additionally discloses that Jason served as an MI5 agent, functioning essentially as a secret informant. It’s been uncovered that he had been monitoring Helen due to some sensitive information leaks. However, before his demise, he submitted a report clearing her of any espionage allegations, stating she was simply a regular, virtuous mother.
Jason loved Helen after all. He kept her safe, even when it was a giant risk to himself.
In the upcoming season 2, we can confirm that Helen will continue to be a member of the Black Doves. This fact is beyond doubt! At the spot where Jason met his end, we see Helen sitting for a while. Eventually, she leaves behind a document that Reed provided to her – it was a compilation done by Jason on Helen herself.
Sam doesn’t get back together with Michael
Ultimately, Sam finds a closure with Michael (Omari Douglas). Following the series of events, Sam visits Michael’s home for a shared Christmas celebration.
However, upon waking up, Sam finds an unexpected visitor – it’s Hector Newman (Luther Ford), the boy who was spared when Sam eliminated Hector’s entire family during the incident at Michael’s apartment. Hector suspects Sam’s involvement in the downfall of the Clark family, and seeks his help for protection. In return, Hector proposes a position within his criminal network, an offer that Sam agrees to.
Subsequently, he goes to see Lenny (played by Kathryn Hunter) to sort out their financial issues. Sam warns her that he will take drastic measures if she cannot let go of the past and start anew, yet they reach an understanding to do so.
In the early hours of Christmas morning, specifically at 6 a.m., Helen returns home and joins her husband and children for festivities. They exchange gifts while Helen leans comfortably against Wallace’s shoulder.
Later on, she phones Sam and extends an invitation for him to join them for their Christmas meal. Throughout the day, Helen and Wallace are busy preparing a feast. Upon his arrival, Sam presents Helen’s children with toy firearms as gifts. What a perfect touch!
What to expect in Black Doves season 2
Great to hear that the popular series, “Black Doves”, has been renewed for a second season on Netflix! This news came out a while before the first season even debuted, and judging by the way season 1 ends, it’s easy to see how season 2 will build upon its storyline.
Primarily, Wallace will assume the role of Prime Minister in the UK, while his wife, Helen, will carry on with her work for an intelligence agency. However, one challenge for Helen is that she’s been exposed; her identity is no longer a secret due to numerous individuals now aware of it. This was evident throughout the finale as several parties possess this information, which could potentially be used to threaten or endanger her family and loved ones.
Additionally, there was an event involving Helen and Sam taking the lives of Alex and Trent Clark. Shortly following this occurrence, they received a threatening phone call. This incident is expected to play a significant role as we move into season 2. It’s clear that the Clark family will seek retribution, despite the fact that their actions initially set off this entire chain of events.
As a devoted viewer, I can’t help but feel that Sam’s encounter with Hector in the finale of season 1 might hold significant implications. Should Sam decide to team up with Hector, it could potentially create tension between him and the Black Doves. Only time will tell how this unfolds.
From my current understanding, it appears that’s the state of affairs as we approach the second season of “Black Doves”. We’ll be sure to provide you with updates on “Black Doves” season 2 once we have more information. So keep an eye out for further news!
