Cuckoo will be available to stream on Hulu this month (plus 2 more 2024 horror films)

As a die-hard horror fan who has spent countless nights huddled under blankets, peeking through fingers at the spooky scenes unfolding on my screen, I can confidently say that these three upcoming releases from Hulu are not to be missed!

2024 is drawing to a close, and Hulu is ramping up the fear factor with three terrifying movies set to premiere on their platform this December. These films were initially screened in cinemas earlier this year. If you missed them at the theater, you’ll be able to watch them from the comfort of your own home soon!

Cuckoo

In a league of its own stands the chilling Neon horror production titled “Cuckoo“. Notably, Tilman Singer, famous for penning and directing the German supernatural horror film “Luz“, takes charge as writer and director in this movie. The lead role is played by Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria“, who portrays a teenage girl named Gretchen. Forced to reside with her father at a resort nestled amidst the German Alps, she encounters peculiar incidents and unsettling visions. As time passes, Gretchen uncovers the resort’s hidden mysteries and comes to understand that her life is in peril due to its sinister secrets.

In addition to Schafer, stars such as Jan Bluthardt, Marton Csokas, Jessica Henwick, Dan Stevens, Greta Fernández, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, and others are part of the cast for the highly acclaimed Neon horror film Cuckoo, which is considered one of the best in its genre for 2024. If you haven’t had a chance to watch it or wish to revisit the experience, you can start streaming it on Hulu from Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024.

The Inheritance

Next up is “The Inheritance”, a horror film directed by Alejandro Brugués, with Chris LaMont and Joe Russo contributing to the screenplay. As billionaire Charles Abernathy prepares for his 75th birthday, there’s an unsettling feeling in the air. He believes that someone or something is planning to take his life that very night. To prevent this from happening, he calls his long-lost children back home, making their inheritances contingent upon their help in ensuring his survival.

The actors in the movie are Bob Gunton, Peyton List, Briana Middleton, Rachel Nichols, Austin Stowell, David Walton, and Reese Alexander. The Inheritance is set to premiere on Hulu on December 20, 2024.

Amber Alert

Wrapping up our discussion on films today, we’ll delve into “Amber Alert”. While it may not strictly fall under the horror genre, it certainly leans towards thriller territory. We think fans of horror movies might find this production quite engaging too. Kerry Bellessa directed this film, a project he co-scripted with Joshua Oram. This is their third collaboration, following their work on two previous horror films: “Immanence” (2022) and “Amber Alert” (2012).

Jaq is eager to start her first day at a new job. She takes a lift to work from Shane, a rideshare driver working to earn some extra cash, not knowing that soon she and him will engage in a high-speed chase. What was supposed to be a simple ride to her job turns into something else when Jaq and Shane both receive alerts about a child abduction. Realizing they are right behind the kidnapper’s car, they embark on a high-speed chase across the city to track down the abductor and rescue the child.

In the leading roles of Jaq and Shane, Hayden Panettiere and Tyler James Williams will shine. Alongside them in the cast are Saidah Arrika Ekulona, Kevin Dunn, Kurt Oberhaus, Katie McClellan, Ducky Cash, Claire Slemmer, and Dinora Walcott. The highly anticipated series, titled Amber Alert, is set to premiere on Hulu on December 28, 2024.
