Danny Dyer is punched in the face before strangling his co-star Ned Dennehy in bloody fight scenes while filming the second series of Mr Bigstuff
As I delve into the life of Danny Dyer, a man who has graced our screens for over two decades, it’s impossible not to be captivated by his journey. From his humble beginnings on EastEnders to his recent foray into comedy with Mr. Big Stuff, Danny’s career is as colorful and dynamic as the characters he plays.
In a precursor to events, pictures from the set of Mr. Bigstuff’s second season reveal an incident where Danny Dyer is hit in the face, followed by him seemingly choking his fellow actor, all depicted in gruesome images during filming.
47-year-old actor from EastEnders experienced significant acclaim following the debut season of the Sky Max dark comedy, where he portrayed Lee, a dominant character struggling with a dependency on prescription drugs.
Last week, a rather bloody Danny was seen shooting fresh violent sequences for the upcoming second season on Canvey Island, Essex.
In the fight sequences, the character sported a massive wound on his head, and it seemed like a carnival setting as he bled profusely due to the injuries.
Funny photos revealed Danny’s face contorting significantly following a powerful punch from his fellow actor, Ned Dennehy (portraying Bunny).
In another setting, Danny brandished a large, bright yellow mallet designed for a striking game, complete with a slender belt.
Danny was observed trying to choke Ned with a hammer strap, then brandishing the tool above him.
Additionally, Ryan Sampson, the creator, writer, and main actor portraying Glen – Lee’s strict and distant brother – was also seen on set.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but feel proud when I share that the initial run of Mr. Big Stuff catapulted its popularity to Sky Max’s top-rated fresh comedy in a span of three years. This remarkable achievement is said to have sparked the desire among executives for even more of this comedic gem.
According to a source close to the TV industry, it appears that Danny has discovered his ideal role as a humorous and edgy character in a pure comedy series.
As a die-hard admirer, I’ve always been captivated by his words when he parted ways with BBC One soap. He expressed a deep-seated belief that one pivotal character, the one he yearned to embody, had somehow managed to evade him up until then.
‘Maybe he’s finally found that part on Mr Bigstuff. Sky execs certainly seem very impressed.’
Danny plays estranged, wayward brother, Lee, trying to patch up his sibling rivalry.
The plot revolves around the tale of two siblings who have grown apart; Glen, portrayed by Ryan Sampson, is a meticulous individual yearning for suburban perfection, while Lee, played by Dyer, is a dominant character struggling with addiction to prescription drugs and carrying his father’s ashes in a biscuit tin.
Glen and his partner lead an ordinary, harmonious life that’s surprisingly serene, considering Glen struggles with severe impotence and Kirsty conceals a propensity for shoplifting. Yet, their happiness remains untouched by these challenges.
As Lee abruptly enters their lives while evading his past, the once harmonious life they knew begins to unravel.
As a devoted admirer, I found myself reflecting, “Wow, this is remarkably distinct from the persona of Mick, and it’s an entirely fresh aspect of my performance that audiences haven’t witnessed before.
‘This is a joy. To be on a set where everyone’s laughing, it’s a different kind of energy.
‘I would love to push it further, this comedy thing, if I get an opportunity.’
The first series ended on a cliffhanger and Ryan said of the follow-up: ‘Filthy secrets, dirty lies. Someone’s gonna have to come clean.’
The next season will launch on Sky and NOW in 2025.
Danny has stated that his 9-year tenure on EastEnders apparently caused him to be overlooked for all casting opportunities.
From 2013 to 2022, he portrayed the character Mick Carter. His on-screen departure occurred when his character attempted to save his wife Linda Carter (played by Kellie Bright), resulting in a tragic off-screen drowning incident.
In July, the star clarified on Capital Breakfast with Jordan North, Chris Stark, and Kemi Rodgers that “Mr Big Stuff” represents a unique first-of-its-kind.
Chris asked Danny: ‘Am I right in thinking this is your comedy debut, Danny?’
As an ardent admirer, let me share my thoughts: “Indeed, Plebs did make me chuckle, and I had a small role there, but the truth is, I’ve never shouldered the weight of a leading role in comedic productions. For years, I was entrenched in EastEnders, and it’s not exactly famous for its humor.
It’s rather dim… It seems like they assigned the eccentric role to you, not that I’m implying anything in particular. I was yearning for an opportunity to explore a distinct approach, if you catch my drift.
Instead of saying, “Chris insisted: ‘What was it about this role that convinced you to take it when you’ve likely been offered similar comedy parts numerous times?'”, you could also say, “Chris wondered aloud: ‘You’ve probably had plenty of chances to play such comedic roles before, so what specifically drew you to this particular part?’
Danny replied: ‘Actually, no. For ten years, I worked on EastEnders, and during that time, I essentially retired from acting. My name was struck off all casting lists, making me invisible to the industry. In essence, I ceased to exist for them.’
“It operates that way; working there is quite rewarding, like being on EastEnders. It provides a sense of stability, yet, it doesn’t leave room for you to explore outside opportunities, I’m afraid.
