As I delve into the captivating world of Gok Wan and his stunning Georgian townhouse, I am struck by the profound sense of home and belonging that radiates from every corner of this space. With each story he shares, it becomes evident that this house is more than just a building; it’s a testament to a life lived passionately and a journey marked by transformation and growth.

2006 saw the debut of Gok Wan, renowned for his Channel 4 fashion shows, particularly “How to Look Good Naked,” captivating television audiences all over the country.

After that, he diversified into areas such as DJing, television and radio hosting, writing articles, and making appearances on ITV’s This Morning, BBC Breakfast, The One Show, and Loose Women.

But while the star may lead a glitzy life now, it’s a far cry from his humble beginnings.

50-year-old Gok shared with The Telegraph that instead of living a luxurious life, he actually started in a stationary trailer (caravan) in Leicester, as his family was waiting for their permanent housing.

He shared that it was when he turned 11 years old that they settled into their initial apartment, which was situated above a restaurant – a establishment where his father served as the chef and his mother managed the front desk.

It was because of this combination of family and work that has shaped Gok’s sense of home.

He told the publication: ‘Home was always really important for its sense of community, safety and belonging. And because of the business, we were surrounded by our family the whole time: they’d be downstairs working and we’d be downstairs with them or in the flat above.

In our business, everyone pitched in and contributed significantly. During the peak hours of the restaurant, we’d listen to the bustle from up above – the customers, music, noise, conversation, and laughter – all of which was truly awe-inspiring. To me, home isn’t defined by possessions.

And the TV presenter has come a long way sine then.

Presently, the host of Gok’s Chinese Takeaway resides in an impressive Georgian-style urban dwelling, right in the center of vibrant London.

As a lifestyle aficionado, I found myself instantly captivated by its radiance and prime position – the pulsating heartbeat of London’s vibrant Covent Garden district.

Although the bones of the DJ’s house may be Georgian, the interior is from from historical.

He revealed: ‘My home is like walking into what I think of as an old Georgian movie. It’s got all of its original features. But with the interior design I didn’t go for a very Georgian look as there’s lots of stuff going on, although people probably think I live in a white box with smoked glass.’

He further mentioned that his house holds significant value, as it serves as the gathering place for both intimate family dinners and glamorous events with friends, ranging from simple meals to extravagant parties.

He organizes everything into separate rooms, but his most cherished spots at home are the kitchen and the lounge, as that is where he enjoys spending time with his beloved dog, Dolly.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I seldom find myself entertaining friends within my cozy lounge, yet I relish the opportunity to host gatherings here. In the warmer months, I delight in flinging open the windows for a breath of fresh air, while come winter, I prefer to snuggle up with the city’s hustle and bustle kept at bay by drawn curtains.

He mentioned that his kitchen is quite spacious, often serving as a lively gathering spot, which was among the key factors that won him over when it comes to the house.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I frequently host gatherings in my home, and my preferred spot for entertaining is none other than my expansive kitchen, where my DJ equipment resides. This space effortlessly accommodates up to 35 guests, making it a perfect venue for socializing and dancing the night away. Remarkably, this kitchen feels like a separate structure, an extension on the back of the house, providing a unique and inviting atmosphere for all who enter.

This place seems cozy and entertaining, reminiscent of a nest or den, and it’s adorned with a deep, vibrant red, not the bright red of a postbox. Entering it can be quite overpowering. I often liken it to returning to the womb.

Although there’s plenty of room, Gok sometimes roams the manor together with his cherished French bulldog, Dolly Albertine Dishcloth Wan.

Gok has some experience navigating the property market, as he’s lived in at least 15 different places within or near London and Leicester throughout his life.

In the early 1990s, the celebrity purchased a duplex that had been converted from an attic in the neighborhood of Bermondsey, which became his first home.

As a seasoned city dweller who’s spent several formative years in the bustling heart of London, I can share a personal anecdote. Initially, I found myself enamored with a particular abode that suited my needs perfectly during those early days. However, as time passed and I grew accustomed to the rhythm of urban life, I outgrew it, much like a snug sweater that’s too small. Nowadays, instead of residing there, I choose to share its charm with others by renting it out.

Following his departure from his initial residence, he eventually purchased a property in Hampstead’s Heath Extension, and later settled into a Georgian-style townhouse as his new dwelling.

Despite being a pro at design and admitting his fondness for adorning his home, Gok confessed that one area he hasn’t quite nailed down is gardening.

Regardless of his efforts, he admitted that every plant on his rooftop garden has perished, leaving him no choice but to hire professionals to take care of them instead.

Although gardening isn’t his forte, one thing that makes Gok particularly proud about his home is the cozy space he calls his ‘cave’.

He explained he converted an empty courtyard space into an ‘inside/outside living space’.

He revealed: ‘It has a roof on it and I’ve covered it in plants and it’s gorgeous. I call it my Gok Cave, because in the summer it’s where I go and watch TV.’

The star has additionally decorated his residence with numerous sentimental mementos such as family and friend gifts, along with a vintage shoeshine set from his great-grandfather, an ancient abacus, an old dish cart, and even a mirror discovered at a Polish service station.

As an ardent admirer, I’d express it like this: “I can’t help but rave about that mirror; it boasts the most exquisite craftsmanship in wood. But transporting it back to London proved to be a challenge far greater than I had initially foreseen.

He stated that motorway service stations over there are similar to large, cozy wooden lodges offering fantastic food. However, getting items back from Poland turned out to be an absolute horror.
