Aljaž Škorjanec reveals the REAL reason he returned to Strictly as he insists ‘I replaced nobody’
As a dedicated follower of Strictly Come Dancing, I must say that my heart skips a beat whenever I hear about Aljaž Škorjanec‘s return to the show. This man is not just a fantastic dancer; he’s a living legend who knows how to captivate audiences with his moves and charm.
Aljaž Škorjanec recently disclosed the genuine motivation behind his comeback to the popular BBC program, having left the dance floor in 2022 before.
The 34-year-old skilled dancer announced in July that he would be coming back to Strictly, as it became clear that Giovanni Pernice would not be returning due to an ongoing investigation into his conduct.
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! The announcement of his comeback, making him the first professional dancer ever to be reinvited to the show, had me on cloud nine. And just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, news broke out that Graziano Di Prima was let go by the BBC days later, following allegations of serious misconduct towards his former partner, Zara McDermott. This turn of events has only heightened my anticipation for what’s to come!
Yet, Aljaž himself emphasized that he didn’t replace anyone when he discussed his choice to come back to the dance floor.
Addressing the reflection in the mirror, he admitted, “I wasn’t filling anyone else’s shoes. The urge to return was strong. On my own accord, I chose to take a break, then put my dancing shoes back on. And here I am, continuing Strictly just as I did before I departed, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m proud of this journey.
After departing the show in March 2022, Aljaž and his spouse, Janette Manrara, have been blessed with their first child – a daughter named Lyra. As he shared, this break from the show was taken to fully immerse himself in the joy of fatherhood.
He went on to explain: ‘Once she became pregnant, I decided to pause all other activities and focus solely on that.’
‘In reality, the wisdom came from a very dear person to me, who pointed out that while careers may change, time is always moving forward.’
On The One Show in July, it was announced that Aljaž had confirmed his return, expressing his longing by saying: “There is so much I’ve missed! I’ve been able to care for my lovely wife and baby for two years. However, I’ve really missed everything about Strictly.
I’m absolutely thrilled to rejoin the Strictly family! This year promises to be exceptionally memorable for this iconic program, and I can hardly contain my excitement to get involved and step back onto the dancefloor once more.
In his first season on the program back in 2013, Aljaž and his famous dance partner Abbey Clancy won the Glitterball trophy. In 2017, he reached the second place position during his partnership with Gemma Atkinson.
He stands a chance to lift the Glitterball trophy once more, as his performance with partner Tasha Ghouri earned them a perfect 40 last week, prompting Craig Revel Horwood to finally use his 10 paddle for their American Smooth dance.
In a flurry, enthusiasts of X couldn’t help but express their admiration for the seemingly flawless presentation. Additionally, they applauded Craig for long-awaited delivery of those elusive ten points at last.
Back in September, I found myself right smack in the middle of some buzzing news regarding the cast and team of Strictly Come Dancing. It seemed that there was quite a stir when it was announced Aljaž would be returning, following allegations of a heated backstage argument with a female dancer. Needless to say, emotions ran high!
According to reports, Aljaz left the program following a surprising event involving another female dance partner during their nationwide tour, which allegedly occurred.
It’s been said that the choice to reinstate the celebrity on the BBC program has sparked some surprised looks, considering the series of controversies that the show has faced in the last few weeks.
A source told the publication: ‘Has the BBC learned nothing from the past ten months?
In the midst of continuous uproar regarding the conduct of their male professionals, I found myself advocating for change by actively seeking out a dancer whose departure was shrouded in controversy.
Contrary to the hype, Aljaž was not as trouble-free as he seemed. In reality, he was anything but a ‘legend’ returning without issues.
According to the source, the team and actors were happy when he left two years ago, but they seem shocked to find him returning to the program now.
They disclosed that he apparently became extremely intoxicated during a night out on tour two years back, which resulted in an extremely severe and quite startling incident involving a woman.
The incident was said to have made the female dancer feel ‘deeply uncomfortable’.
Backstage discussions have delved deeply into Aljaž’s scene, and I must admit, I found it surprising when they decided to reprise his role. It’s left me puzzled along with the rest of the crew.
‘Execs would have to be living in a cave not to have heard the rumours’, the source added.
The publication reports that the BBC claims no official grievance was lodged regarding the incident, and it’s been mentioned earlier that Aljaz chose to depart on his own.
When approached by TopMob, the BBC chose not to offer a statement. To The Sun, they stated that they do not acknowledge the allegations made against Aljaz.
