Throughout his impressive 60-year career, he’s acted alongside legends like Laurence Olivier and Peter O’Toole. More recently, he gained popularity with a new audience for his role as Captain Imbert-Terry in the Netflix series, The Crown.
John Standing, also known as Sir John Leon, is once again dedicating himself to caring for his wife, Sarah. Sarah, who is 66 – 25 years younger than John – is bravely fighting cancer for the third time.
Sarah, whose parents were actress Nanette Newman and director Bryan Forbes, shared that her father, John, is doing remarkably well, considering his age of 91. She feels it should be her turn to care for him, but acknowledges that life often surprises you. He’s been keeping her spirits up with laughter, jigsaws, and gentle walks.
Standing was overjoyed when Sarah Forbes, sister of TV personality Emma Forbes, received a clean bill of health in 2023. Sadly, she’s now been diagnosed with an aggressive form of lymphoma called large B-cell lymphoma, which is a type she’s battled before as non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Sarah, who previously wrote a memoir called ‘Dancing With The Red Devil’ about her first experience with cancer, feels incredibly unlucky that it has returned for a third time.
Despite her diagnosis, Sarah remains positive, emphasizing that her condition is treatable. She’s especially grateful for the support of TV presenter Trisha Goddard, who is also fighting cancer. ‘Trisha’s become a really good friend through this,’ Sarah explains. ‘The medication makes nights difficult, so we chat at least twice a week to support each other.’
Oh, and Tilly, my sweet Tilly, has been with me for everything. Every single appointment, she’s right there by my side. Honestly, I don’t know what I’d do without her. I feel so incredibly lucky to have her support, it means the world to me!
Strictly needs female hosts, says ex-judge
Following the departure of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is planning some big changes. Show bosses are considering adding a male co-host to the lineup, and Rylan Clark, Bradley Walsh, and professional dancer Johannes Radebe are all potential candidates.
Bruno Tonioli, a former judge at age 70, is cautioning against moving away from emphasizing female empowerment.
At a charity event in London, he suggested that ‘Strictly’ would benefit from having two female hosts again, like Tess and Claudia. He explained that he enjoyed seeing two women lead the show, finding it empowering – and that’s what he believes the program should represent.
‘Having Tess and Claudia together on the show made it quite special.’
Yasmin Le Bon’s scary midnight encounter
Model Yasmin Le Bon says that while she’s been married to Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon for over 40 years, their life together hasn’t always been easy or secure.
The 61-year-old recalls a frightening experience with a fan in New York. He was in a late-night deli when he became convinced a woman was about to attack him with a machete, believing she blamed him for interfering with her romantic life. He thought, ‘This is it,’ and feared for his life in that moment.
After being convicted of assault and briefly jailed last year for punching someone during an argument in his local area, he lost his position as a Labour MP and resigned from Parliament.
Mike Amesbury now says the argument ultimately caused his divorce from Amanda Perraton, his wife and the mother of their son, and he regrets how things unfolded.
He shares in his blog that he lost it all – his job, his good name, and even the house he shared with his family. This all happened right before Christmas, marking the end of his 18-year marriage.
Amesbury, 56, the former MP for Runcorn and Helsby, says he’s working to get his life back on track. He’s gradually looking for work and trying to adjust to a world that isn’t quick to forget the past.
Alice gets fired up at her 40th
Fire marshals at Alice Naylor-Leyland’s 40th birthday party in London likely had a busy night. The party was held at Harry’s, a private club, earlier this week.
The socialite blew out a triple-tiered cake with a cluster of wildly blazing candles.
Alice celebrated her 40th birthday and shared a photo online. Guests included film director Emerald Fennell, model Poppy Delevingne, and DJ Lady Mary Charteris, who was pictured to Alice’s left and expressed her excitement to be part of the celebration. Alice’s husband, Tom Naylor-Leyland, who is set to inherit the substantial £176 million Fitzwilliam estate, was also in attendance.
Nic’s unwise move
Nicola Coughlan, known for her role in Bridgerton, looks stunning in costumes, but her dancing during filming of The Magic Faraway Tree didn’t impress her co-star, Simon Farnaby.
During a film screening at BFI Southbank in London, she recounted Simon telling her, ‘Feel free to improvise.’
However, the scene didn’t go as planned, according to Farnaby, 53, who also wrote the script. She recalls someone saying, ‘That dancing is really irritating—please stop.’
Even after a 50-year career, Charles Dance doesn’t like giving acting advice to younger actors.
During a speech at Advertising Week Europe, 79-year-old Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance admitted it would be presumptuous to assume he has all the answers simply because of his experience. However, he added that he would be happy to offer acting advice if asked.
