Netflix is unleashing a great slate of TV shows to close out 2024, so here’s what’s coming!
2024 comes to an end in December, and since many network series are on break, it’s an excellent opportunity to binge-watch Netflix shows! The streaming service is keeping things lively with a few fresh series as well as some that are making their premiere. Among them is the much-anticipated second season of one of the most popular TV shows from the last decade! There’s plenty to explore, so let me share what’s arriving on Netflix in December for your viewing pleasure!
Black Doves (December 5)
Keira Knightley has been cast in a new streaming TV series, and it appears she’s ideally suited for the role. In the show, she portrays the wife of a British politician who secretly works for a covert agency known as the Black Doves, a hidden spy organization. The demise of a fellow agent compels her to join forces with an ex-lover to uncover connections between London’s criminal underworld and an impending crisis. Given Knightley’s talent, she seems perfectly cast for this part, and the series promises to deliver exciting action and serve as an entertaining thriller to enjoy during the holiday season.
The Great British Baking Show: Holidays (December 9)
This cherished baking show is set to air two holiday-themed episodes featuring returning favorite contestants for entertaining contests. Prepare for creative takes on festive desserts, along with hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, among others, who are all geared up to bring their signature antics. It’s the ideal sweet viewing experience suitable for the holiday season.
One Hundred Years of Solitude (December 11)
Drawing inspiration from the 1967 novel, this Colombian dramatic series unfolds around seven generations of a family residing in a seemingly idyllic, enchanted town named Macondo. As they navigate their daily lives, they gradually discern a curse that may jeopardize their efforts to sustain this “paradise.” The show aims to preserve the novel’s acclaimed legacy as it brings a fresh take on this gripping tale for contemporary audiences.
No Good Deed (December 12)
An all-star cast highlights this dark comedy from the creators of Dead to Me: Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Teyonah Parris, Abbi Jacobson, Poppy Liu, Denis Leary, and O-T Fagbenle among others. Kudrow and Romano are the owners of a fantastic 1920s Spanish-style villa in California. Three couples all vie to buy it, and soon, they are in a wild competition for their dream home. What none of them know is the owners are hiding a dangerous secret about the house that can make it a nightmare purchase. It looks like a fun dark comedy and the cast alone should make it a must-watch for another good Netflix dark comedy.
The Equalizer Seasons 1-3 (December 16)
The freshly added CBS success story now streaming on Netflix; viewers can savor the first three seasons of this modern adaptation of the 80’s TV series that spawned the popular Denzel Washington films. In this version, Queen Latifah portrays Robyn McCall, a former military operative from the black ops unit, who resides in New York City with her daughter. Additionally, she offers her services to assist individuals in peril that are overlooked by the authorities. The action is thrilling, boasting an impressive supporting cast, and each season escalates the tension even further. For those who missed its initial run on CBS, this presents a prime opportunity to stay current with the successful series.
Virgin River Season 6 (December 19)
The beloved romance series returns this year with another round of emotional rollercoasters. This season’s major plot revolves around Mel and Jack’s preparations for their spring wedding, an event eagerly anticipated by the entire town. However, obstacles are inevitable as other characters navigate their relationships, heartaches, and perhaps a calamity or two. But it’s these challenges that keep viewers hooked, and Season 6 promises to be the most exciting installment yet for the show.
Squid Game Season 2 (December 26)
Three years following the extraordinary success of “Squid Game” on TV screens, its long-awaited second season has arrived. One might assume that Gi-hun would have no interest in the Squid Game after emerging victorious. However, he’s back for another round, not for monetary rewards but to seek vengeance against those orchestrating it. A fresh crop of contestants will participate in innovative new “games,” with a deadly twist. If it’s even half as captivating as the initial season, viewers are set for an exhilarating experience as the Games recommence.
